Is there any way to get a creature to breed another creature, especially during world gen? Or to force them to breed only into a certain caste?

As an example, let's say I have a Great Dragon. I want them to be able to breed, but I want the resulting offspring to be of a different creature type called Dragon. Dragons are weaker than Great Dragons, and Great Dragons can't breed other Great Dragons.

I could resolve most of it using castes, but then I'd have a chance of dragons spawning as megabeasts during initial world creation or having great dragons be bred by great dragons.

Probably.

The way it works with kobolds and the theft tag is that they don't actually steal anything but when they leave your map with the items, then it gives you a theft notice.

Because been an adept adventure ive seen feathered Coatis in deserts and scaled antlion larva titans in forests.

Yes, you have to create a new body. See body_default for examples.

They dont. There will be a certain number spawned upon world generation, then they dwindle down into 0 if enough times passes.

No, since thrower is no military skill. Needs to be one of the official military skills.

I can CONFIRM that egg layers KIND OF work in Fortress mode.

The good:
They easily produce viable children from the eggs (they did so completely without my intervention).
They return to the nest box after doing a task (try to keep expectant mothers away from strenuous or long-term tasks).
Eggs aren't immediately rendered inviable after the mother leaves, just after she leaves for too long.
You can easily dump unwanted eggs.

The bad:
They eat the eggs. Unless you permanently forbid the eggs from eating, there's not much you can do about this.
They move the eggs. This ruins them. Unless you forbid them from every stockpile, there's not much you can do about this.
No distinction between fertile and non-fertile eggs, I believe.

It's quite micro-managey, but I don't know of anyone who really has more than one food stockpile anyway. The most difficult thing is clearing out unfertilised eggs, and even that's not a big deal.
