HugoLuman felt it again, stronger now. The mug-shaped ripple in the background magic. He hadn't hallucinated. "Oh, shit. Wierd, something is very wro-"

Just then, the whole room shook. The walls and roof seemed to be holding, but elsewhere rock could be heard falling.

Wierds eyes bulged, huge and swolen. Without a moment's hesitation, he slid the remaining gloe in his posession on his right hand, threw open the door, and began blasting the walls and cieling with as much icy frost as he could generate, coating them in thick, white ice. This narrowed and constricted the hallways, but it also strengthened them against collapse.

Screams of the fortress's inhabitants getting caught in the disturbance rang in his ears, but all he did was yell at them to get to the surface, while processing the hallways leading up as quickly as he could go, doing everything he could to keep the roof from falling in.

Many rooms had already fallen in. He bit his lip, and kept spraying ice.

Cold air whirled around behind him through the frozen guts of the fortress's halls, but in time, daylight shown through a partially collapsed doorway ahead.  Evacuating dwarves streamed around him, ducking the icy spray he was creating to avoid becoming dwarfcicles, and nearly running him over in the dead panic of stampeding people.

He made it outside, a fairly large portion of the fortress's population (but nowhere near all) had successfully made it outside.

"Run! If the fort collapses, the ground will subside! RUN!" He shouted, then dashed back down the sizzling cold maw to beef up as much of the structure as he could, and to get others to safety.

Oliolli shook his head, tryng to make sense of where he was. It was very dark, for one, and the air was thick with dust. Rumbling and shaking could still be felt and heard, but the area he was currently in seemed stable. He had lost direction while trying to evacuate, and had apparently gotten lost. As the dust slowly settled, he let out a groan of despair. Amidst the layers of hardened volcanic ash, several plaster 'bodies' could be seen, piled, waiting for recovery. As his eyes adapted to the dark and he regained his sense of direction, he soon found that the entrance to the ruins had collapsed. Eric's research team had fled, and left their equipment behind, picks and supplies included. Should be enough food and drink for quite some time, especially given his slow metabolism, Oliolli estimated.
Damn. And I was just winning.
Thank you, oh perfectly timed earthquake. You have managed to save my 7-to-1 win/loss ratio. You have to admit, 28-4 is pretty good.
I still don't get the game.

Gizogin jumped up from the dining hall table at the first boom.  He immediately assumed the worst: the fortress was collapsing!  Wasting no time, he leapt across the table and ran for the door.  Fortunately, it had been a busy day and very few dwarves were in the dining hall, so he made it out into the hallway with no trouble.  The dwarves were already undergoing evacuation procedures, and he fell in line with a group heading outside.  They all ran for the exit, stones and bits of masonry crashing down around them.  Gizogin saw a dwarf crushed under a falling pillar, and three more trapped by a cave-in, but he couldn't slow down to help them.

Finally, they made it outside, where a few dwarves were already waiting.  He passed wierd, who was going back into the fortress to get the remaining survivors out, but he kept running.  He had to get himself to safety first, and he wasn't about to risk his own life needlessly.

In the hospital, Gizo X scrambled to get all the injured dwarves out.  He directed the G-Bodies to get everyone safely outside, then ran back into his workshop.  The roof appeared to be holding, but it wouldn't do so forever.  He had precious little time to get what he needed.  He yelled at Gizogin's new droids to gather up his most valuable possessions as another violent tremor shook the hospital.  A huge chunk of stone crashed down from the ceiling, smashing the area designated as Hugo's bed.  Fortunately, the dragon himself had left the hospital at the first quake, and was already outside.

Gizo X, though, was not.  Nimbly dodging the stones falling around him, he loaded all his belongings into the tank.  He hopped into the cockpit, and shouted to the worker droids to clear a path.  He started the massive reactor, and prayed that the untested machine would work properly.

Oliolli blinked. He thought he could see light coming from the doorway to the buried street outside the temple. Walking outside, it was clear. Above him he could see the evening sky. People walked all around him, not seeming to notice him, and when he reached out a hand a man walked right through it. The street was no longer blocked by walls of ash, a ceiling of sheetrock and debris no longer sat on the roof of the blockage and the temple. The body casts no longer littered the floor around the arch that led to the street.

The sun was just setting and the stars were out. On the horizon, where the coast should have been visible from the surface, was a great bulging dome of a mountain. He blinked again to clear his vision. Everything remained. The people and the streets, indeed the whole scene seemed to be there but not there at the same time; like an echo.

HugoLuman narrowly dodged a clump of rock. "Come on!" shouted Wierd.

"I'm going as fast as I can! I've got a leg still on the mend here!" He hobbled to the junction down the hall, starting to turn instead of going straight on.

"Where are you going!?"

"To find the source of this! I can feel exactly where it's coming from, it's driving me mad!"

"Are you insane!? This whole place is coming down! "

Are you freaking kidding happyface?!  I thought it was understood that I was already going to do something to the fort in this timeskip!  Now you have screwed the entire thing up!  And I cannot wait until the next timeskip for what I planned, when you could've!  What the HFS*!

*I personally prefer not to swear online, but you get an idea at what I wanted to say.

And to the rest of you, why did you not correct him on that?!

[In point of fact, I did say that you were already planning to do something catastrophic.]

[I thought Zanz was going to be the one to destroy the fortress.  I'm not entirely sure where you're going with this, and the fact that you're not going to be around for a few days to elaborate on it kinda puts things in a weird position.]

[I find it a bit amusing that you're not annoyed that he destroyed the fortress, but instead by the fact that he beat you to it.]

I wasn't planning on destroying the whole fort, just a decent chunk of the population and completely random areas.

The ice covering the cieling was cracking, and groaning. The earth shook, and the floor twisted under his feet.  He heard a dwarf yelling from downstairs in the magma forges.

Down the hall to his left he heard the sound of a huge engine crank over, shortly before the wall crashed down, and a huge tank rolled out.

"You must evacuate immediately!" Shouted X, through the tiny window slit.

"I have ever intention!" Shouted weird angrily. "There are people downstairs! Get your tincan ass outside! I hope you packed a medkit, cause there's wounded outside! Lots of them!"

"Understood!" Shouted X, before gunning the gas and cruising up the hall as wreckless speed.

Weird blasted the hall behind the tank with more frost, and did his best to shore up the compromized wall X had demolished getting the tank out of the machine shop.

Rounding the corner, he saw that the ramp leading down had collapsed. Desperate shouts and screams cam from behind, amid frantic clanging. He leaned against the fallen stone blocks and yelled.

"Get the fuck back, I'm gonna blow the rocks!"

'....what!?....' came a muffled and distant voice. 'Get oos out lad!'

It was that loudmouthed fucker that he commissioned the box from. For a fleeting moment, he considered leaving him... but he rejected that impulse instantly.

"Get the fuck back, asshole!" He shouted, then closed his eyes, shielded his face, and began torching the boulders under insane scorching heat, hearing them fizzle and crack under the thermal change, and melt into red hot goo.

"Whatchit lad! Ye done caught me beard on fiar!" Yelled a voice from down the stairs, causing him to halt the flames and open his eyes. A dwarf sized hole had formed under the torrent of white hot fires he had been throwing, now surrounded by red glowing stone.

"Well, put that shit out, and get away from the hole, jacknut!"

"Muh NAME'S RIKOD, Yah daffy wizard!" He shouted. "An the damn magma's creepin up de staars! We got wounded in 'ere!"

"Unless you want to be burned horribly by the wall, stand back, so I can freeze that shit!"

"Aye lad! Ye heard 'im boys, back up!"

Weird waited a few seconds, then let the wall have the frost, heating the stone spinter and shatter as it chilled way too quickly, and the opening tried to shift.

"Get your drunk asses out of there right now, god damnit!" He shouted into the now cold stone  portal.

"Ye heard 'im! Out boys, afore the hold damn mine falls on oos!"

Weird stood aside, as 16 terrified and singed dwarves from the furnace compled scrambled through the hole, and into the hall.

"Follow the ice! It leads outside!"

Terrified dwarves bowed hastilly in appreciation, then mad-dashed up the ice-encrusted hallway.

That had been the crew that had made his steel box 2 weeks ago.... shit! Roead and the books!
He about-faced, and dashed toward the ancient ruins. Maybe the mummy hadn't been crushed yet.

And to the rest of you, why did you not correct him on that?!

Just mentioning that the comment above was mostly at Eric, and those who refused to correct him on that.

Which brings up the question of whether he did it out of spite, or ignorance.

Still, he could've waited.  Especially since he won't be back for a few days.  My story could not wait since I had already started it.  Now it won't have the full effect that I had desired to be completed.

Dashing up the hall, he heard a familiar half-peep, half-shreik.  It was baby peepers.

He stopped cold, as his heart sank. Ugly as the now pidgeon sized chick was, he still loved the thing. He moaned painfully, trying to decide which way to go, then he decided. Peepers first, then books, then outside. The whole place was gonna fall down any minute.

He dashed up the hallway to the residential district, second door on the left. His. The far end of the hall had collapsed near eric's room. Good riddance. He hoped those damn tablets he had in there got smashed! Kicking in the door, a terrified 'chicken' shreiked in its box under the bed, stone debris having landed on the messy bedsheets sometime earlier.

He scooped up the chick, stuffed it down the neck-hole of his hazard suit, slung it over his shoulder and took off.

(Sorry bout beating you to the punch for that. Don't worry, the earthquake will subside, and the gate to the higher worlds will close soon, with me having gone to the other side. The fort won't be completely wrecked. Oh, and the mugs will shatter, just saying.)
