Company of Heroes 2 - The Eastern Front
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:01:12 pm »

http://www.allgamesbeta.com/2012/05/company-of-heroes-2-revealed.html

Sorry, terrible photos of a magazine is all I got at the moment, and I'm not going to hunch in front of my monitor to read that stuff.

Been waiting for this for so. Freaking. Long. I have a little thing for Company of Heroes. After the lead developer was killed in that car accident, I thought this series was dead, buried and sold to an Asian game company running it as Company of Heroes Online. But it's a new war!

I'm hoping that the Essence Engine from DoW 2 has been revamped again. The physics, terrain destruction and deformation of CoH were years ahead of their time, and still haven't been duplicated. DoW 2's engine was a big disappointment in all three of those categories, and if I'm not punching holes into buildings with tanks or pounding a 15-foot deep hole in the ground with artillery I'll be one very sad commander.

Eastern Front is best front.
Seriously excited about this. I enjoyed Company of Heroes quite a large amount and I also thought the series was dead. Hopefully this will turn out as good if not better than the first game.  Hopefully the weather will play a bigger role this time around, as it did in history.

I hope the Soviet's special infantry ability will be looting of enemy weapons and supplies. I can't think of anything more awesome than to be able to steal some artillary/armour off some frozen Nazis and use it to blow up the rest of them.

Actually, we have a mod for CoH, called Eastern Front, where we can has russians. No need for buying that sequel then :P

So soon after Men of War: Condemned Heroes?

Anyway, good times :D

Funny that I was actually reinstalling CoH as I noticed this thread :P

Hmm, never heard of this before, but the moment i heard physics engine i was sold.
thats one of the things i quite dislike about most modern FPS's, you can fire a rocket launcher at a wall two thousand and fifty-three times, it will not break.
Nothing better then punching holes in big factory walls

Like I said, CoH has some of the best physics in any RTS I've ever played. It's not perfect, and prone to silliness.....but blasting apart buildings that enemy infantry is holed up in is simply amazing. As is blasting infantry with artillery and watching them fly straight up into the player camera.

Men of War has better building destruction physics IMO. Corpse physics and crater creation are better in CoH, however.

Men of War is barely the  same genre as CoH though, it's a much different experience (and one that isn't nearly as approachable to the average gamer).

CoH is eminently playable by most. I've heard MoW is only for the truly committed.

CoH is accessible to anyone with RTS experience. I had to try many times before I finally started being able to beat the AI in MoW:AS. It's hard as heck, super unforgiving, extremely fast-paced. It's also a lot more realistic, but not nearly as much as I wish it was.

Either way, CoH was a good game, I'll look forward to this one.

Come to think of it, MoW also has a better vehicle system IMO. And since when has difficulty been a downside?
