I have taken the liberty to name all of your ships. You may or may not appreciate it.

The Mud Snail trudges along to the SW.

At N14's Star System your scanner's pick up two planets orbiting a yellow star.

Planet 1 lies in the Goldilocks Zone. Your sensors compute a 90% chance of life on it.
Planet 2 is farther out, and your sensors computer a 20% chance of life.

A more specific scan on either planet may reveal additional details.

...

Several other ships join. The Ukrainian Tortuous, The Unholy Scourge, and an unknown ship. The unknown ship(now identified as a Prospector's Explorer) turns to fire on The Unholy Scourge!

You turn to run away and...

You have ambushed a pirate!

Oh wait. The pirate ambushed you. It rounds from behind a moon and is closing in fast! Your sensors classify it as a Pirate Frigate(equal to a Zero-K scout damage wise, other attributes are unknown). The Mud Snail creaks in fear.

You attempt to stir up a group of meat shields explorers to find treassssure

Most of these fellows ignore you. I mean, you didn't expect to convince people to go to a supposed death trap, did you?

One however, with a sparkle in his eyes, and a swag in his walk, takes interest in your tale.

Ah yes, I've heard of the tales. With great danger comes great treasure!

His eyes sparkle.

Well, let us be off. Let me start up my Prospector's Explorer.

...

As a fleet, your two ships twinkle in the twilight as you rocket off to N14.

Planet 2 is farther out, and your sensors computer a 20% chance of life.

Your communication monitor picks up a planet in this system with intelligent life!

Your ship scanners pick up the mud snail. Its turning away and fleeing from you. You quickly realize your 'partner' is turning to fire on you! He was actually a pirate!  :o

You turn The Unholy Scourge and prepare to fire!

The Mud Snail also gets engaged in combat with a Pirate Frigate. The Ukrainian Tortuous rockets into sensor range.

Spoiler: FYI (click to show/hide)

Ukrainian Ranger

Ah. Captain Black Panther. Captain of the Ukrainian Tortuous. It sounds good to you.

You hoist the fusion reactors and make way for N14.

...

You arrive upon multiple skirmishes.

The Unholy Scourge prepares to fire upon an unknown Prospector's Explorer while The Mud Snail futilely tries to outrun a Pirate Frigate.

You have power here. You could tip the fight in either of these ship's favor if you chose to do so.

Your scanner's beep and new info floods your screens.

Another choice occurs to you. Let them fight. You'll slip past them and get whatever great treasure exists on one of these planets.

Toaster/Maldevious/Comrade Gafarov

You collectively agree to turn The Red Herring towards J15.

...

You arrive at the system. Scanners once again pick up no planets.  :(

I have also decided to 'nerf' the communication monitor. It creates quite a lot more work for me the way it currently works. It can only pick up civilization within the scan zone now. If you don't want it anymore, you can return it to the station for a full refund.

"Edit" If someone could organize a copy paste for the sign up sheet(and maybe stripping away the needless details, like equipment, ships, ect.(only skills + name/background), I'd greatly appreciate it. I don't exactly have the time to do so at the moment.

Before I make my official move...

Patches a line through to the Unholy Scourge. You said you wanted meat shields? Save my ass and I will gladly land on the planet of your choosing and relay my findings back to you.

if Zecro is cool with it i would be glad to attempt an escape roll from the ship attacking us and help you kill yours (hopefully) before ours works out where we went.

power the cloaking field
perform evasive manouvres
target the distant frigate and open fire once in range

if initial target is destroyed or has weapon systems destroyed regroup with the mud snail and prepare for combat with the traitorous swine that ambushed us.
if either target inflicts heavy damage upon the unholy scourge engage maximum engine burn and get the f**k out of there.
if both targets are destroyed/crippled loot all the things and split them three ways between me, zecro and rory.

Spoiler: char sheets (click to show/hide)
is it just me or can ukrainian ranger successfully board ships with a roll of 2 or higher due to the fact he has +3 boarding and +1 to all combat rolls.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

Well, he has a Mundo's Tug for one. -1 to combat rolls.

Two. If an enemy ship's guns are still active, you aren't going to be boarding any ships any time soon unless you like not having a ship to return to.

Three: With engines still active, the tube can be ruptured, preventing any sort of retreat.

Four: I'd imagine the roll success will depend on the situation. A fast, armed ship is going to take more like an 8 in order to successfully board. And then there's fighting the boarding defenses(The Boarding skill plays a roll here).

ah so your using defense/attack rolls instead of success/fail rolls

...that's gonna make things interesting

the navigation skill is used in escape rolls too right?

nope you got ambushed by one that was hiding behind the moon and we brought one with us because it looked like a good idea at the time.

If I understand you correctly, not quite. Here, let me show you an example combat:

Pirate Fighter fires its Laser Battery
(6)

The Prospector's explorer takes a grazing hit on its hull, taking light damage!

The Prospector's Explorer fires its plasma gun
(10+1-1)

The Plasma Gun critically hits the engines of the fighter, causing its instant destruction in a spectacular Star War's Explosion!

~~~
The Ship Navigator originally had a bonus to escape rolls. But then I decided it didn't make too much sense in space. No matter how skilled you are, you're still a floating target in space. Now in an asteroid field(anomaly), that's a completely different story.
Ahh well in that case...
Continue running away, but fire back at the frigate as I move.
If it is destroyed and the Snail is still intact: Fire at the pirate trailing the Unholy Scourge.
might i humbly request that you fire a plasma volley as you flee?
it shouldn't slow you down all that much and it could save my ass :)
Well, we rock at finding nothing.
That asteroid field or one of those two planets?
