Oomph was moving back to the nosebleed seats, carrying double armfuls of snacks and drinks for his, hmm..entourage? Well, she was nice anyway.

He saw the race through a tower of nachos. He liked the little masked one-he reminded him of Bradely.

"Go Shy Person! Lead Race like Oomph did!" he said.

On instinct, Oomph then promptly ducked being beaned on the head by an another annoying kid with a pokeball, maintaining his precarious hold.

"Ow! Oomph not turtle pokemon! That mistake only happen dozen times today..."

That water, always wanting you to slide off. Shy Guy was surprised at the event. It almost slipped Shy Guy's mask off!

No matter, Shy Guy's plan was in motion. If only Shy Guy could keep up the pace-

Was that the finish in the horizon?

"Run! Run for it!"

Blowing a raspberry at princess zelda as he finally passed her, he turned his attention to Vaati. "Great, a wind elementalist and a narrow bridge coming up... Better safe then sorry this time. " Power slide outer path.

Aggressive that driving!

Shy Guy puts the pedal to the metal, [6] bursting ahead with THREE Momentum and a -1 Penalty to Hazard Checks!

Drive defensively along the bridge!

Back in GREEN, Vaati cuts inside toward the bridge, driving defensively!

Blowing a raspberry at princess zelda as he finally passed her, he turned his attention to Vaati. "Great, a wind elementalist and a narrow bridge coming up... Better safe then sorry this time. " Power slide outer path.

Dry Bones swings wide to the outside path, [2]+1 but fails to ignite his engines for a powerslide!

Boss Form Amadeus drives defensively along the outer path, heading for the Item Boxes!

Take the shortcut, use the mushroom once the bridge has been crossed.

Zelda heads toward the bridge, preparing to use her mushroom!

Still red and full of anger (OOOOOOOOOOOK!), MonkeyKong keeps his foot pressed firmly to the floor. He would kill for a banana, and like all apes did not fancy the water very much... if he got this right, he could pass that funny looking lady in front of him... Powerslide around the wide curve, hoping to get a banana an item box

MonkeyKong swings into a powerslide, [3]+1 surging forward with +1 to Passing as his engines ignite! He tries to outrace Zelda, [1]+2+1vs[5]+1 but he's too far off his line!

1st      2nd      3rd      4th      5th     6th
Movement Phase

Shy Guy is racing through the narrow switchbacks and curves of BLUE! [6] He takes an excellent racing line, efficiently moving down the slope, gaining +1 to Pass Checks and picking up ONE Momentum! He attempts to Pull Ahead once more, [3] but can't quite muster the speed!

Vaati is cautiously crossing the bridge before Bill's Seaside Cottage in GREEN! He gains TWO Momentum as he swerves to dodge the Goldeen-launched blasts of water, [3]+1+1 having no trouble as he completes his crossing!

Dry Bones lacks the Momentum to pass Vaati, but at least he has a shot at some Item Boxes!

Boss Form Amadeus is driving defensively, moving toward the Item Boxes!

Zelda drives onto the bridge, gaining TWO Momentum as a volley of Water Guns toward her! [5]+1 She skillfully picks her way between the bursting balls of water, zipping onto the main track! She activates her Mushroom, bursting ahead with TWO Momentum and moving to pass Boss Form Amadeus! [6]+5vs[6]+3+1 He drives valiantly, but cannot beat Zelda as she takes Fourth Place and loses ONE Momentum!

MonkeyKong lacks the Momentum to pass Amadeus, but he's in prime position for an Item Box!

Cleanup Phase

Dry Bones aims for one of the Item Boxes, [6]+2 hitting one with no problems. [1]+2+1 He begins dragging a Green Shell behind his Kart!

Boss Form Amadeus [6]+2+1 has an even easier time hitting an Item Box, [6]+4+1 receiving a powerful Star!

MonkeyKong [5]+2 finally gets an Item Box, [4]+5+1 drawing a Blue Shell!

Shy Guy passes before Cerulean Gym, crossing the finish line and starting Lap 2/3!

Db lets out a low groan as he checks his mirror again to make sure he isn't about to be hit by anything. "Gotta give it to that frilly elf girl, I've seen other dry bones recover slower from a crash then she did. Maybe if I knock that wind mage off the track she was bickering with earlier, she'll stay back to annoy him." Drive aggressively, launch shell at vaati.

MonkeyKong held the shell in one hand, looking at it puzzled. This was no banana. He gave it a lick anyway - OOOK - tasted a bit fishy, if you asked him. This did little to abate his anger, and he threw the shell as hard as he could at the races still in front of him - MonkeyKong lets out an OOK of suprise as it launches into the air and zooms off into the distance...

More foot to the floor ape like Aggressive driving - Launch the shell.

"Wheeeeeeeee! ~"

Aggressive to the driving!

Try to snatch an item box!

Shy Guy cheered as he crossed the finish line, zooming past it due to the benefit of his modules!

Nothing can stop Shy Guy now!

Nothing!

I think it takes little meta to see a blue shell moving towards you like a meteorite.

Approaching cruising speed.   :D

Also, I can't see that far back at Monkey there, and even if I would, the breeze is just too refreshing! Also, that strange green turtle in the stands is cheering for me. He seems familiar, like a twice-removed associate.

Hmm.

So long as we're waiting for adwarf, I thought I'd throw out an adaptation of one of my favorite courses in Mario Kart DS- Waluigi Pinball!

Spoiler: Waluigi Pinball (click to show/hide)

This curvy course has a flat +1 to Powerslides throughout.

Racers start in YELLOW, and are launched into the pinball machine with ONE Momentum. The curve has 2 paths- inside makes Powerslides always allow a pass attempt, outside has Item Boxes (+1).

The twisty rails of GREEN provide a unique opportunity for skilled racers. During the Movement Phase, every racer makes a mandatory Racing Check- success grants ONE Momentum. However, this segment is also populated by Pinballs entering the course- drivers make a Hazard Check (+2) or flip, losing TWO Momentum. Drivers also have the opportunity to hit Item Boxes (+2) here.

RED gets worse as the race goes on. Drivers choose between the safe outside path and the risky inside path (which contains Item Boxes (+2) but risks a Bumper Hazard (+1), failure results in loss of ONE Momentum.) On the first lap, racers are happy to take advantage of the overall +1 to Driving Aggressively granted by the speedy, straight downhill nature of the segment. On the second lap, there is a Pinball bouncing around which counts as a +2 Hazard. On the third lap, there are TWO Pinballs, combining to make a +1 Hazard. On the fourth and final lap, there are THREE Pinballs, causing the Hazard check to be made at +0. Lots of Momentum can be made here to charge up the leaderboard, but the -1 from Aggressive Driving makes the hazards that much worse as the race continues.

On a semirelated note, now that we're better than halfway through Season One I've been pondering the course selection for Season Two. I think what I'll do is have the Underdog Open (first race) be a fan vote among already-traversed courses, the Crown Invitational (second race) be a new course not based in Mario canon (Mt. Silver, Gloomba Grotto, etc) while the Comeback Open (third race) is a new race adapted from the games (Waluigi Pinball, whatever else gets done before it comes up, etc.) I'm currently debating whether the Cup Race should always be Rainbow Road or a variation on it, or if I should just go with the most challenging course unraced for the season. Thoughts?
