Small nitpick but I don't think Mount and Blade truly counts as an Indie game since they were published by Paradox (although they're the closest to an "indie publisher" as you can get).

It's hard to say what "Indie Roguelike" to sugguest since they're all pretty much all indie developed. I would say Dungeons of Dredmor would be a great choice if you're looking for a nice graphical roguelike with full mouse support, it's still got a decent amount of depth but it's not stupidly over-complex.

Mount and Blade Warband. I think it's on sale at the moment. It's got a few dozen incredibly good mods like Vikingr and the Deluge as well. Not sure if you think it still qualifies as Indie, but doesn't matter; it's a good game anyway. And the company's got good forums too, with some overlap with this one with certain members (Flare, MadocComadrin, AWdeV, myself etc.)

In-post edit; Hah! I only read the second page of this thread while making this post.

Good point, but the first releases for M&B were without Paradox. Granted, the final release was under Paradox and so are the releases of the stand-alone expansion (Warband) and the DLC's With Fire and Sword and Napoleonic Wars.

Eh, forgive my advertorial enthusiasm, please.

Indie has become more of a genre thing rather than anything to do with publishers so the discussion is pretty moot in the end.  :)

True. How many here consider Team Fortress 2 an indie game?

The games that have given me the most enjoyment out of the Indie games have already been mentioned.

Terraria
Mount & Blade
Dungeons of Dredmor

I also enjoy Minecraft, but it is still too expensive.

I'm quite disappointed in the indie community... there are tons of super in-depth roguelikes that are free, and I keep seeing more and more commercial simplified and shallow roguelikes. It makes me teh sad. I hated Dredmore, and I gave hack slash loot (I think) a whirl and ... there's absolutely nothing in there. I dunno.

The commercial roguelikes were made as a gateway to bring more people to the genre, so that's why most of them are dumbed down. But yeah, Dredmor lasted me a few days until I got bored of it. Still like its humor though.

TL;DR, free roguelikes (nethack, crawl, DF, ADOM, etc are much, much better than commercial ones, except a few.

I know a game. Infact, the developers host these forums. It is called dwarf fortress.

What bothered me with Dredmor is the horrible UI. It's also tedious as hell to control and has a lot of unnecessary micro management (alchemy being the worse offender).
But yeah, it has nice music and some humor.

Just a few more good indie games :
Frozen Synapse
King Arthur's Gold
SpaceChem
Trine (and Trine 2)

Heh, I just noticed two more threads about M&B and offspring, so perhaps there was little need to even post about it in this thread. Oh well, consider it a token of my being fan of it.

Not enough people saying Spacechem, this game is one of the most brilliant I've played in the last 10 years.
You have to like puzzles though :).

Buy Towns.
With each new update it becomes more of a hybrid between Majesty and Dwarf Fortress.

Bluh.  I still haven't finished spacechem.  I keep picking it up every two months, finish a few worlds in a frenzy of problem solving, and then burn out and leave it alone for another two months.  :)  At this rate I'll be finished in 2016 or something.
