Roguelikes...

Dredmor would be your cookie-cutter indie roguelike, but it's great fun.

Standouts that I bought where SPAZ (Space Pirates and Zombies) and Terrarira - both great games, and a incredible value.

Yeah, Terraria. You can buy it for very cheap and it'll last you very, very long. Moreso if you can find a server to play with.

Here are a few I like:

- Amnesia: The Dark Descent   (horror adventure)
- Eversion    (platformer/puzzler, but with an interestingly creepy twist)
- Metro 2033  (first person shooter)
- The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom  (Platformer, a little like braid, but less artsy)
- Orcs Must Die (Tower defence/ shooter)
- Space Pirates and Zombies (Space game thing)
- Super Meat Boy (hard platformer thing)
- Toki Tori (if you like puzzle games)

Starfarer, Terraria, and Mount & Blade are all awesome.

Starfarer is still in alpha, but you can buy it at 1/2 price now and have access to it.  It's well worth $10 in its current state, it's an awesome little 2d space combat sim, way deeper than Space Pirates & Zombies.

Roguelike not rougelike!!!

Not available yet (they just finished a kickstarter), FTL may be what you are looking for.
Also, Spelunky and desktop dungeon, two roguelike-like actually having an updated version ongoing, but their free version are still available.
The binding of Isaac, it's a link to the demo, feel free to try (and die).

For pure roguelike, I would recommend Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, but you can also look at roguebassin.

And there is the http://www.indieroyale.com/ and the http://www.humblebundle.com/ that are still ongoing.

Also Grim Dawn, actually on kickstarter, but a good choice if you want an aRPG in 2013.

I'm quite disappointed in the indie community... there are tons of super in-depth roguelikes that are free, and I keep seeing more and more commercial simplified and shallow roguelikes. It makes me teh sad. I hated Dredmore, and I gave hack slash loot (I think) a whirl and ... there's absolutely nothing in there. I dunno.

Anyway, Minecraft, Terraria, and SPAZ are definite buys. You might want to check out the payed version of King Arthur's Gold for some more multiplayer goodness. The good part is the free part still allows you quite some fun for trying the multiplayer out.

I'd also highly recommend Stellar Impact if you like DotA games!

Both Starfarer and FTL appear to be very solid pre-purchases :)

Fuck yes. Its a good thing I'm studying 14 hours a day at the moment, or I'd be wearing out my left mouse button, constantly refreshing the fractalsoftworks livepatch notes thread. The only reason I haven't actualy joined those forums is that I already have my massive timesink quota filled with bay12. Buy this now. If you don't have money...um, just imagine your a crack addict and work from there? I dunno, just get this awesome game.

or maybe Valve goes out of business because they invested too heavily in something which then fails - like, say, human civilization.
Alternatively, initiate strife to refuse additional baked goods, and then abscond.

What do people think of A Valley Without Wind? I've been enjoying the demo, but have mixed feelings about it: http://www.arcengames.com/w/index.php/games/avww-features

- Braid (platformer about time)
- To the Moon (WARNING: you will cry. Very, very sad plot.)
- 0x10c (Game by Notch; not completed yet, but when it is it looks like it'll be a seller if you're willing to learn how to code.)
