I'm playing on Whiteside Ridge which is a sparsely populated server, and for the first week or so we were getting dominated by Far Shiverpeaks, we fought very hard to get some kind of edge out of our own Borderlands, and managed to be in second place. Then we got swapped over and it was our turn to dominate... for about a day, then they assigned us to a much bigger server again which kicked our arses.

When I played WvW it was a huge charlie foxtrot and I had no idea what was going on. So many people and particle effects flying everywhere, I couldn't even tell if I was providing any meaningful contribution.

I've always been a more Co-op type of person anyways.

I think this is normal, until you learn the WvW mechanics, why supply camps/caravans are important, how to build and operate siege equipment, and in general, understand how the whole thing works. At high population hours, it's true, you can get lost in the whole "zerg" mentality, chasing around a big crowd of people, throwing yourselves at the nearest Gate and getting routed in every direction at the first sign of resistance. And you're right; there's no organisation in that, just pure chaos.

But stick around for a while and someone with a bit of leadership usually comes along and starts directing the flow of battle. The majority of time spent in WvW, in my experience, will have you dealing with the defense and capture of various supply camps and towers. Supply is needed for Keeps to upgrade their defenses and build equipment like Cannons and Mortars. Whenever you take over a supply camp, be sure to grab some supply from it, and the next time you come across a building site (commonly, Burning Oil above gates, or Catapults/Ballistas that players are attacking a position with) you can contribute to getting it built. You can also use supply to repair Gates and Walls that are under attack.

I like being a defender. I'll report enemy troop movements over /team when necessary, and man wall defenses like Cannons and Arrowcarts to deadly effect. I don't much enjoy being one of the 'footsoldiers' down below, but in times of need, I'll lend a hand there too. The important thing to remember is that you don't have to be part of the "zerg" if you don't want to. You can escort caravans, build defenses, and repair stuff instead. And all of that is equally important to the war efforts.

In eternal battlegrounds you can get a little PvE on.  You can turn the local ogres dredge and hylek to your side which will send extra defenders to defend your stuff, and send small attack squads to attack enemy held supply camps.

Those attacks won't take them by themselves but a well timed attack to coincide with the AI's attack can be enough to let a small group of 2 or 3 players take a supply camp instead of needing 5 or more.  And getting a neutral faction on your side is exactly like doing a heart in PvE.  If they are hostile you just have to kill them a little first.  Both things that can be done solo.

Also with practice you can solo the lone guards on the road.  That's worth a few points to your side and a hostile guard can really put a damper on an unguarded dolyak route.

Kegbrawl is probably the most dwarven thing to do in the game, and its hilarious (and a bit broken). If anyone's interested, gate to Hoelbrak and head northwest.

Personally, I rarely go to the Eternal Battlegrounds... but yea, in Borderlands, you got the non-frog aquatic people, ratmen and centaurs who you can beat on or something for various support.

These days, I avoid going to the Ehmry Bay Borderlands, mostly cause its kind of annoying having to swing around and jump down cliffs everytime ya die...

Sadly, loot only lasts 5 minutes...  kind of a damper when you forget to pick em up in a big battle, big part of my income and random things I put into my hording hole.

Also, Spartans use ballista and arrow carts in WvW.  To great effect.
For Great Justice, Loot and Power.  (Not in that order.)

Quite. We had a couple B12ers playing it. Our dwarvenly knowledge led us to crush the opposition.

Okay so charr is my favourite race and having a charr warrior is not enough. I just made a charr thief because being sneaky backstabbing bro is cool. He has the smallest body frame to minimise hit box. :P

Hitboxes are the same for all races, although in pvp a lot of min/maxers are playing mindtricks on people by always rolling asura (including me), so they appear tiny and harder to click.

Honestly, hammers should be super effective against the short people.  Squish.

... Is it bad that i usually don't use the mouse while playing Guildwars 2?
I kinda aquired my playstyle 2 years ago on the gamescom, because they had some alternate keybindings and the loadingscreen had an overlay displayed - so the first thing i did was turn the mouse upside down and put both hands on the keyboard...

Does anyone else use the thief's Heartseeker as a movement skill while traveling around? (Especially with Signet of Shadows, which makes you leap farther as well as running faster.)

Do you just tab-target? And how do you do your character and camera control/turning? WoW got me to stop using my keyboard to turn and start using my mouse for camera control as well, so it'd be hard for me to go to just keyboard control. I DO need to move my 6-10 spells to new keys, though.

The moment the lever was pulled, somebody's pet kitten stepped onto the bridge. I read somewhere that if a cat falls more than 11 stories, it instinctively flares its legs out to increase air resistance. This slows it down enough to stick the landing with relatively minor injuries. In Dwarf Fortress, apparently, cats don't do that.

You can auto-select a target by using an attack skill in its general direction, and you can turn using the keys, but what you can't do without a mouse (as far as I know) is aim ground-targeting AoE abilities.

I set my slot skills up to be closer to the WSAD keys (I don't play EDSF which would be better but it's not as comfortable for me). Slot 5 is alittle annoying to hit so I might rebind it to R or something. F is healing skill while Z, X, and C are slot skills. Elite is F5, but for some reason I don't use the toolbelt/F-key skills very often...

Use key is set to a mouse button as usual, shift is dodge (I hate double tapping thanks to Rune), and another mouse button cycles through enemies. There's another button on my mouse but I dson't know how to get it to work, I assume I need software for it, and I forget what, if anything, middle click does. If it doesn't do anything I'll probably set it to sheathe weapon like I have in M&B.

If you are using only the keyboard you can probably set the 8546 numpad keys to movement and use all the main keys for actually doing things.

EDIT: ooh, my mouse has buttons to adjust the DPI but it looks like the software will allow me to set them to do other more useful things... hooray mouse buttons galore =p
