I've been mostly logging in every 24 hours. I hit Billionaire a few days ago and I think I really need to diversify to get interesting.

Hm... it's that time again when I get the urge to sweep through some games I've abandoned and see if I find any interesting changes. I've picked this one up again because, why not? I should be able to check it at work without impacting said work (yay multitasking :P). I had an old account sitting around with 100 Mil but I hit the reset button on it to make things more interesting. Plus, free techs.

Mine were: Q56 Apples (yay?), Q48 Plastic Jugs, Q43 Pepper (da fuq am I gonna do with that?), Q37 Milk in a Jug, Q37 Strawberry Juice Concentrate (again... yay?)

Since I feel like playing to existing techs here, I'm setting up a dairy business at the moment. Probably to expand into Apple and Strawberry-based drinks later on. So far the Apples are going to be the main source of income, as they don't need further processing. The Petroleum->Plastic->Jugs, Milk->Milk in Jugs takes a bit of time and micromanagement... and money. I've burnt most of the starting loan already. Ah well. :P

I always need more steel at test server for my designer bags ;) If someone would put that on b2b market, I'd buy ~20k of it at a reasonable price, maybe even a few dollars more expensive than the npcs.

At Vietnam tech, is it better to keep manufacturing guns or to buy/make tanks?

It means you are starting wrong. At start try to produce first thing in production chain that can be sold in retail (2nd or 3rd tier max). Aim for products that got low market satisfaction (check on eospedia). Then expand from there. I had 20x markup on 2nd tier item (1st tier = require only elec/water) until a competition shows up a week later.
Game is getting boring fast. I'm just logging in to queue next 24h runs.
I had BB Goode's help and it was still pretty difficult. I probably don't have the right kind of aptitude for this kind of game. Games where you play an independent merchant going around and haggling with other merchants, those I can do alright with, but these games where you start out as a garage shop and have to compete with megacorporations just don't seem to click right with me.

Once I got all my companies on a standard schedule, I could make it a twice-a-week game. I don't think that's a weakness, per se... lots of people watch tv shows that only air once a week.
If I play a game and I like said game I'm going to play it every day until I either get burnt out or I find something more enjoyable. I have no life, one friend and no commitments nor television channels so I spend most of my time having a life in video games. Economies of Scale is one of those games I cannot do that in, though I do remember some of the good times I had in that game. Personally though with the whole merchant simulator and such I'd rather have something that's a lot smaller scale than Economies of Scale or Capitalism, something more personal and involved than running a megacorporation. I mean I tried to enjoy Economies of Scale but I cannot play it as an idle game and I cannot enjoy it checking in on the game multiple times a day like it's a chore of some kind.

It would look a lot better as a text-based game and without all of the excessive amounts of GIFs which really do tax older computers. If I even try to go to the buildings screen my machine overheats because there are a ton of GIFs animating at once. Scott doesn't understand how that taxes machines like mine with older parts I guess and even with the graphic reduction options he added in the GIFs were still there and were still wreaking havoc on my machine. It was less of a problem before the updates that crammed everything onto one screen but I digress.

Your mind might be elsewhere. It happens to all of us. No need to worry about it unless if you're like me and it's because of some kind of dissociative state. If it happens like that then you should seek medical attention. Maybe you just want to play a game with tanks and Vietnam right about now?

So, just starting this. Started with a mine, prospector, power plant, and well. Teching bauxite right now because that was the first on the list and because bauxite is magmaproof. Bought some starting water and electricity so I can make natural gas to make power to make my own water for stuff. Should I have another well for this? Should I not even bother making my own power/water?

One minor problem with this game is that farms are way too productive.  My beverage company has around 10 beverage factories that are producing 7 different beverages, all of them supplied from a single 5000 m3 farm; and I often have leftover fruit that I sell on the BtB.  This makes it way too easy to grow your own fruit and makes it so that a company producing only fruit is not viable.

Despite all the problems, I'm still playing the game.  It's an interesting few-minutes-a-day diversion.

Making your own utilities is worth it. Make gas -> power, and water.

Coal to elec's better since you can always find buyers for coal, no matter quality... Though honestly, I have little over 120km2 of power plants. Four cents a power unit on gas bought for over a dollar (I produce at 56 cents now). If you need power, hit me up on the weekend, I'll take your gas since it's always in demand for me and send you ludicrous amounts of power in return. Okay, not too ludicrous... 6:1 ngas:elec, maybe. Can and should be negotiated.

Even buying coal at 10 apiece will net you a profit on power.

That's why I was basically laughing off the electricity cartel... A coal one would have been far more disruptive.

Coal has ridiculous producers... There's a guy selling for two bucks above production, at a high Q and in immense quantities. Besides, past experience tells us you do not simply cartelize articles further than the second tier, it's not profitable barring ridiculous shit happening.
