That's something that should probably be told to investors.

Thats another thing for the suggestion forums then :)

So is the stock market based entirely on IPO speculation? or is it actually possible to hold long-term portfolios as a source of income?

Certain companies (like Prophet Empire) pay out dividends and keep to it unless things turn out really bad.  There are a few out there, but then there are also many companies out there for the quick cash.

So besides me (Atorek Flarecrystal, of Alterixian Industries), this is everyone here as far as I could tell skimming the thread for names. The contact list seems fairly decent at finding people, though there were also two other Urist people I didn't see mentioned here.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

The account of Aldreans Devralis was my first attempt at this game. I've since restarted using the Mysterious Mollusc / Econosia Tires account.

It's at least somewhat similar to the real thing.  Some pay off dividends, which encourages you to hold long-term.  If it's highly volatile, you can buy/sell and make a quick buck.

Looks like there are some goons playing- they usually know what they're doing if you're looking for companies to invest in.

Goons, as in Something Awful forumites.  They like to get on games like this and coordinate to dominate, much like we are.

I wouldn't advertise it as such- they're rather aggressive.
