The number of possibilities the pathfinding has to crunch through increases exponentially as the distance to the target increases.
No, "The time complexity of A* depends on the heuristic. In the worst case, the number of nodes expanded is exponential in the length of the solution (the shortest path), but it is polynomial when the search space is a tree, there is a single goal state, and the heuristic function h meets the following condition". Exponential complexity is doomed to cause lag spikes lasting for thousands of years (in the best case).

I think he was using the lay term of exponential growth - "Goes up really fast, at a rate that appears to be very roughly in multiples of ten."

Althought admittedly, in Minecraft you can make tools out of diamond. The best dwarven researchers still haven't managed that...

Personally, I'm finding it harder and harder to stick to my ancient (and massive) 31.25 fortress with all these awesome features coming out. First clothing and now minecarts! If only it were savegame compatible...

Above statements support DF

And they do it with sticks and rocks. HA! We have need for no nonsense. Now where is my god-metal?

Minecraft is like DF's little cousin who aspires to be like it.

Well, I was being sarcastic. I honestly get bored of minecraft about as easily as ball-in-a-cup.

Why do so many threads devolve into a Minecraft argument...  Saw this a lot more in Terraria, but it happens here plenty as well.  It's like "Terraria has wire; ZOMG Minecraft clone!"  And now "DF has minecarts; ZOMG Stole from Minecraft!"  Jeeze, it's not like these are new ideas and that only one game may ever have rolling boxes.  It's also not like they're similar games.  Apples and oranges.  Drop the issue, it's not relevant.

What is relevant is that minecarts can be modded, and that they're tools.  This implies that we might be able to make water or magma filled carts.  Or, more importantly, booze carts.  Booze Carts.

Joy will be had if I can get at Magma Cart and a Nitroglycerin Cart to have a midair collision.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.
