Man, getting the repairer makes this game actually playable.

My Sword of the Zephyr is the best thing ever, it may suck at hitting things (= unenchanted iron sword) but I use it constantly to get around faster and to vault myself out of my chasm.  Of course I've died from my sword more than from anything else, but still.

Finding a Pickaxe of the Core in a chest like ten minutes into this current world made life a lot more bearable, of course it needs the repairer to be worthwhile.

I use the duplicator on lilypads, of all things.

I'm only now starting to get hardly any of the upgrades, so of course my taint levels are super high.  I'm wondering if I could purge it by creating a forced loop through a purifier, that wacky thing you make out of like a whole silverwood tree:
- Use an upgraded valve to suck only taint into the loop
- Use a pump or two to force it to keep going around
- Put a purifier in, so a little taint gets erased from existence each time through
- Profit?

My sugar farm is not nearly big enough at the moment, though.  I'm thinking that I might pursue a giant piston-based farm instead.

Also, it seems like my arcane bore doesn't harvest enough minerals to pay for its own keep...even at depth=15, I don't think I've ever seen it pick up any redstone or lapis or diamonds in like five full charges.  Thankfully they are cheap, but still!

About the repair problem, I went around it by keeping 2 sets of tools and once a tool is almost broken, i put it in my Equivalent Exchange alchemical bag that has a talisman of repair. It's kinda cheating but if i didnt do that i would be pulling my hairs way too much.

I think the purifier is more like an upgraded filter, so i think it still spews taint in the aura, however if it works like the filter, you may be able to stack several of them to destroy more of the taint. However if you want to cleanse your aura, you'll need a condenser upgraded with Concentrated Evil (and stabilized singularity for efficiency), and put tainted crystals in it (they get destroyed in the process), which will allow you to draw taint from the atmosphere. But instead of destroying it, what i do is i store it in thaumium tanks for later use in my dark infuser since it needs both vis and taint. Also, make lots of totems of dawn and you should definitely see a difference in your local aura.

About sugar canes, my own farm is a very simple design with 1 row of reeds, 1 row of water (with stone slabs on top), 2 rows of reeds, 1 row of water, 2 rows of reeds, etc...ending with one row of reeds. I made it on top of an existing shallow water body, filling it with dirt and sand from my work in the area. It really wasnt much work (definitely less work than an automated farm) and i can get over 12 stacks of sugar canes everytime i harvest it. That was enough to feed my research and vis tanks after that.

One thing that definitely helped my research efforts was finding a dungeon (i think it was a vanilla dungeon since it had an Ender portal). I found many chests filled with artifacts in there, and also a huge library (basically filling my inventory with book stacks, good thing i had an alchemical bag).

At first i didnt think that it was going to be useful since i had already researched everything in the lost and forbidden knowledge branches, but then i realised that i could use the artifacts to boost my research success on tortuous theories in other branches (some of the top tier theories seem to have a really high chance to appear as tortous, like the void bracelet and purifier). That and getting as many brains in jars as i could (they are REALLY good-but REALLY a pain in the ass to farm), allowed me to complete the whole tech tree. In fact, brains in a jar are so good that they allowed me to generate plenty of fragments of knowledge of all types from a handful of lost knowledge fragments as soon as i started to lose less fragments than i was generating.

About the Arcane Bore, i found it too much of a hassle to use (replacing the focus all the time), and it's probably much less efficient than just using the pickaxe of the core and it's wisp at low depths.

Pickaxe of the Core can only make, like, twenty swings before breaking.

I guess if you bring along like six of them it could be very efficient, though.  Once I find a recipe for them as opposed to relying on my found one, I'll start doing that.

Two things which are interconnected. First Direwolf has his new season of videos started and you can watch it here. Second is that he has a new policy for EE stuff which I think if followed will make EE stop breaking everything else. Basically he is going to only use EE for EE so no converting random junk into diamonds unless he is using that diamond for something in EE.

Yeup. Purifiers release no taint, and when you combine a moderate-sized loop with a few taint-upgraded consensers, you get an easy way to de-taint your house.
All it needs is some tainted crystals, easily acquired from your local tainted area or taint-upgraded crystallizer.

See, I don't know where you get so many crystals.  Shooting down wisps takes time, and a condenser only gets you a small handful of vis (like 50 or something?).  A stack of sugar gives more than twice that.

A decent mining trip can yield tons of them, with a bit of luck factored in.

I stay a bit short of crystals too and making farms of them seems a lot less effective since 2.1

Vis is really easy to get from items, especially once you get the thauntium crucible and arcane furnace.

On the other hand crystals are pretty hard to find, and are necessary for tons of the thaumcraft items (in my game, I have had a excess of every single crystal but the plain vis crystal, which I was consistantly short on after mid game).

Don't condensers really lower the aura in the area? Still using the version from Yogbox, but I heard that the latest one, aura is even less renewable than before.

I was fooling around in Creative Mode, and made like 10 condensers in a chunk, and they suck all the aura in like an hour.

Also, since I am using the Tree decapitator mod, I just plant Jungle Trees and cut them down and throw the entire stack o' wood into the crucible :D (this could be considered a cheat by some, and obviously it renders the magic Axe obsolete... I don't even want to get started on using Minions to strip mine entire chunks down to bedrock by "making mining shafts")

So i just downloaded the Technic pack and was wondering where to get started. Like what to craft first and such, I've played industrial craft and build craft before but i forgot how to start out.

First step overall is to find a rubber tree. Since you've played industrialcraft you know about these. Get some saplings and from there you can basically do what you want. A macerator is a good first step because hey, double ore, and also because industrialcraft is probably the earliest starting tech tree path with actual tangible rewards, rather then "Hey, I have an automated treefarm" or whatever. I've never really used thaumcraft 1 that much, so I can't speak for it.

I should make a multi-mod starter guide which runs you through the basic tools for each mod.

Hm...

So i just downloaded the Technic pack and was wondering where to get started. Like what to craft first and such, I've played industrial craft and build craft before but i forgot how to start out.

First things you ALWAYS get.

1) Philosophers stone from EE

2) Macerator from IC

3) Thaumcraft crucible (I don't like using thaumcraft that much, waiting for thaumcraft 2)

Then you basically power the macerator to get extra ores to fuel EE to get infinite stuff.

Now speaking of thaumcraft 2.... Does anyone know if/when it's going to be added to the technic pack? I heard it's also in the yogbox, but I like technic better and heard the yogbox crashes.

Wait what? No no, you get (and then upgrade) the dousing rod first, which helps you find enough diamonds for everything else, THEN get the PS.

Thaumcraft 2 is already in the technic pack. Click options in the launcher, then pick version 6.1.1. Find a link to the right version of optifine in this thread, and you're golden.
