First things you ALWAYS get.

1) Philosophers stone from EE

2) Macerator from IC

3) Thaumcraft crucible (I don't like using thaumcraft that much, waiting for thaumcraft 2)

Then you basically power the macerator to get extra ores to fuel EE to get infinite stuff.

Now speaking of thaumcraft 2.... Does anyone know if/when it's going to be added to the technic pack? I heard it's also in the yogbox, but I like technic better and heard the yogbox crashes.

Wait what? No no, you get (and then upgrade) the dousing rod first, which helps you find enough diamonds for everything else, THEN get the PS.

Thaumcraft 2 is already in the technic pack. Click options in the launcher, then pick version 6.1.1. Find a link to the right version of optifine in this thread, and you're golden.

Ah true, dowsing rod is important. And thanks for the info, but do you really need optifine? And can you even install it on top of the technic pack?

Optifine is already in the technic pack, but the one they used for 6.1.1 starts getting quite glitchy after a few minutes / as soon as FPS hits 0 for a short amount of time, so unless you like your skeletons torso-less, yes you need to change the optifine version. Yes you can install it on top of the pack, just install it to modpack.jar like you would normally do to the minecraft.jar.

So, I'm at the point where I need more Equivalent Exchange EMC to get some collectors running, but I'm not quite sure what to do.

Should I mine? Go to the nether for glowstuff? Or farm jungle trees to convert into EMC?

Mining is usually the quickest way. A medium vein of coal can be quite a lot of EMC. Iron and Tin have quite high values as well, especially if you have a macerator.

Farming jungle trees is effective too, I've never done it myself.

Glowstone is the best way to get EMC I have found (well until you get so much EMC income from collectors that just sitting in base is the most efficient thing to do), yeah its annoying to get all the way up there, but each glowstone is worth more then iron, and mining a single deposit of it gives you over a stack.

Yes but your EMC per time spent mining in the nether will be lower, at least in my experience, than just regular mining. It also depends what mods you have installed as Tin is fairly common and has the same EMC value as iron, copper is not bad either, tungsten and sapphire/emerald/ruby can be nice little EMC boons...

Before you start building a home base with Thaumcraft, find a place that doesn't have any taint within like eight cells of anywhere you're likely to go (I use a minimap, make sure it has no purple).

Otherwise you'll end up like I did...caught by surprise, suddenly terrified and trying to evacuate your house as the trees turn evil around you.

Oh yeah, and never deconstruct a crucible that has any vis in it.  Apparently it turns it all into taint and dumps it into the local aura.

This applies to anything storing Vis or Taint. If you break a tank full of Vis it turns into taint and dumps into the aura as well.

So this looks pretty neat.

I'm primarily looking at the Redpower compatible Automated Crafting table.

Before the guy changed it to a sane value the fastest way of getting a tainted area was just filling tanks of vis and breaking them.

I'm also finding wisps in my house all the time already, I'm not seeing the major problem of taint when indoors.

...meanwhile, I can't find a tainted area anywhere, and my concentrated efforts at releasing as much into the atmosphere as possible have created only a very small patch over a few chunks. Darn it!

Yeah, Taint used to be super worse a few versions ago, to the extent that even a few blocks would beginn to cover the map and become a unstoppable wave, after the nerf, taint is pretty tame, rare, and won't really spread.

The easiest way to make a large tainted area is TMI in a few batches of concentrated taint and throw them everywhere, but even that won't really spread, and might eventually go away, but it is a medium term solution.

Taint will spread quite nicely once it gets above ~66% as it will spawn the pods which spew more taint.

How to taint an area in an instant

1. Get TMI.
2. Spawn in the block "tcbhidden". This is the block that makes up Eldritch Monoliths.
3. Activate creative mode.
4. Place and break the block for a metric fuckton of Taint.
5. ???
6. Tainted Everything!
