Though I don't know how to balance my perks, so I'll just list what I want and see if Errol can come up with something better.
Name: Desmond Fox
Appearance: A handsome man in his his mid 30's, with short-cut, smoky black hair and chilly blue eyes. Caucasian with an impressive build. Graced with a small goatee, otherwise clean shaven. Tall and somewhat bowlegged at 6.2. Tends to dress in a doublet, breeches and a feathered longcloak in dark, cool colors-dusky blacks and faded greys, dark blues and dry silvers-also bedecked with a fancy hat, one with three corners and a black feather sticking out of the brim. Carries a small tome with a red leather cover on his waist, attached to his belt with a length of silver chain.
Personality: Desmond has spent most of his life fiercely seeking his own way in the world-as a person, he's independent and brash, always trying to prove himself-perhaps foolhardy, given his age. He has supreme confidence in himself, and no one else-believing a combination of weak arm and weak heart makes most people unable to match him. While he displays a good deal of tenacity and courage, he disdains pointless violence, and is more likely to charm his way out of a situation than fight it out-he likes to think he's smarter than most of the world, or maybe the worlds just made of gullible idiots. If his anger is summoned, however, it shows a man who has deep convictions about what is right and wrong-and is more than willing to act upon them-especially in the defense of the innocent. In truth, he is something of an old school romantic (or a chauvinist, however you take it), and enjoys saving people, playing the hero-he is very hesitant to harm women in battle, even if they're swinging a sword at him. He's in truth, a bit of a fool around them.
The reasons above are somewhat due to the relationship he enjoys with his sister Araline, whom is his only true family left-she too, is an adventurer, and they have a friendly competition amongst one another to seek the greatest glory, and similar views to the world.
Bio: A noble son born into the sumptuous poverty of an indebted father, Desmond was always an 'adventurous' youth-staying away from a broken home physically and emotionally as often as he could. His youth consisted of battling imaginary Dragons with sticks and pretending he was a hero-by breaking windows of the meanest neighbors. Though he sincerely doubts she remembers, he once even knew the Queen-though, she was merely a trouble making child like he back then. Despite what he says in bars, they never shared a kiss under an oak tree, no matter how much he imagines it.
It was no surprise he set out at a 19 to avoid an arranged marriage to a court woman of high bearing-he forsook a part of his families second name and all the wealth and power he might have had to gain. He sometimes regrets this. Desmond found work in the army, at first, and though he proved himself an able fighter he was drummed out for repeatedly disobeying orders-or arguing with his superiors over their tactics. Afterwards, he went into the old standby of the ex military-mercenary work. Given room to improvise, he is rising rapidly in the 'Stormcrows' company. His recent job security, however, has been threatened- his entire mercenary company, at 24 strong, descended into the Dungeon without him-on account of an extended leave, and a late arrival. The instructions left said to wait for them to come back out. He believes this was a bad joke, because they haven't come out yet-and it's been a week. He's not sure if they've met a horrible fate or perhaps are swan diving into piles of gold, but he does know they're doing it without him. Desmond has decided to find some temporary friends and find out what's going on down there...
Not only because they're his friends and comrades, but because of the reward-money doesn't mean much to him (which is to say, he doesn't like to be though of as selfish or miserly, like his father), but he secretly hopes to gain enough fame to meet the Queen again one day and find out if she remembers him, perhaps fondly. For he, like many men in the kingdom, thinks of her fondly and dreams of her attentions. It's a secret, childish dream, but it's his and he enjoys it.
