I seem to have a soft spot for metal instrumentals.

Well i love metal interludes, they set mostly atmosphere of sadness and despair, and the best ones are soft intros that lead into powerful blastfest, thats what i love.

Probably thats why they are used with pentagrams on covers of Satanic Black Metal albums.

If we're on the subject of soft intros and interludes, it's a perfect time to bust out something you might not have heard of.

Gyibaaaaaw!  From their split with the equally awesome Mitochondrion.  Look at that fucking album art.

Also, to add to the list of metal interludes and instrumentals
Crimson Towers
The Funeral
To One Far Away
Nenia

I'll just add this to the list of interludes/instrumentals I seem to have started up.
Something Wicked Part 2-Iced Earth-It's got this whole Egyptian vibe to it yet still has the electric guitar/bass going.

Also, have some Powerwolf:
When the Moon Shines Red
Vampires Don't Die
Prayer in the Dark
Son of a Wolf (I quite like the album artwork here, heh.)

And now for something completely different: Melodic industrial techno death metal with cherry toppings!

While we're on the topic, have some more Machine Supremacy and some Frank Klepacki as well.

And to stay on the topic of openings:
Mother Machine - Delain
Angels Calling - Sabaton
Crimson Rider - Masterplan

To finish it all off, a song to ROCK OUT WITH YOUR SOCKS OUT:
Sock 'n Doll - Kontrust

Here's something you might like, DarkWolf.  :D
Thanks, though, i have heard it countless times before.
Also, i have a question for you, what exactly draws you into black metal more than any other metal genre? I'd really like to see your point of view.

I know it's cliché, but it's all about atmosphere. I like the cold, bitter, dissonant atmosphere of black metal. Hollow walls of tremolo and briskly paced drumming do it for me. (Story time!) It all happened in 9th grade or so when a friend told me about Burzum's Filosofem.

Burzum is ok-ish in my opinion. I'm not really a big fan though of all the Burzum-inspired bands these days. Or most of the low-fi production that a lot of black metal has.

Well no wonder you don't like him, Varg killed you.  :P

Have some Slovak bm.

FUCK YES

And here's something unexpected, Mexican black metal!

If you haven't heard Austere yet, I strongly urge you to check them out.

Same goes for Woods of Desolation
Damn, you figured me out.  :(
Whether or not my dislike of Varg as a person biases me against his music, I seem to disagree with some of the general opinions of much of the black metal community. I'm that guy who doesn't like Darkthrone or Burzum and thinks that Attila Csihar did a good job on De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. Blasphemy, I know.

Apparently Iced Earth made a new version of their Dante's Inferno I never heard about 'till now. The instruments sound nice, the intro riff sounds much more distinct. The vocals of the new guy are cool too, and the backing vocal tracks add different ambiance to the overall feel of the song. He does a nice job of portraying different aspects of the journey thru Hell through different voices/vocal tricks, and it really compliments the piece as a whole. Honestly, the new version as a whole gives me a symphonic power metal vibe, and it's a nice change of pace.

Although personally Barlow's version will always be the original to me. It's got Iced Earth's simpler thrashy-power metal vibe I've come to appreciate. Barlow's vocals seem to portray grimmer, darker, depressed emotion. It feels hopeless, like how one would probably feel after, y'know, going through the Hell of Dante's poems.

Have some more of Iced Earth's new guy; Stu Block

Iced Earth-Dark City
Iced Earth-The Trooper(Iron Maiden Cover)
