Early Opeth is Akerfeldt coming up with a billion 'cool riffs' and then lacking the compositional ability to string them together into a song rather than a collage.  This is why later Opeth albums are musically far superior, though people seem to think that it's only cool to like a band 'back when they ...' or 'originally'.  That and the sound quality is far better.

This song's really awesome - Enslaved ("Progressive" Black metal (basically the Opeth of Black metal))
Opeth is the Opeth of black metal ...

Some people say Opeth's early albums were black metal, but I really don't think they ever had much of a black metal sound. I mean, if we're talking about Orchid and Morningrise, then maybe there's a hint of melodic black metal influence, but it doesn't really sound like black metal to me.

Compare:
The Night and the Silent Water
A Blaze in the Northern Sky

To me its kinda "Progressive black metal" on Orchid and Morningrise, the atmosphere is very similar to black metal, though its hard to say they are definitely black metal, it is the closest thing you can name this.

Anyway, have some Behemoth:
Chant for Eschaton

I just can't get into black metal for some reason. I love pretty much ever other variety of metal, but black just doesn't move me like music should. Anybody got something that will break me into black metal?

That has more to do with how back in the 90s every band from Scandinavia that did not sound like the mainstream death metal stuff was lumped into the black metal movement by the mailorders and the press. The sound thing isn't a good argument because that excludes a lot of black metal bands from being black metal, like all the early greek bands.

If you don't like these, you probably won't like a lot of black metal:

That was pretty good. Not only did it sound nice, but it was sufficiently ridiculous and silly. Thanks for sharing.

You're not giving much to work with but, I posted some Enslaved earlier, they're pretty accessible I think (at least their more recent releases, which are more progressive metal than black metal... but for the sake of posting Enslaved):
Clouds
Bounded by Allegiance
Return to Yggdrasil
Større enn Tid - Tyngre enn Natt (this song has one of the coolest intros ever)

Give this band, Windir, a shot too, they're one of my favs and fairly catchy as far a black metal goes. And their main guy died in a Norwegian snowstorm 10 years ago, how metal is that!?:
Ending
Arntor, ein Windir
Todeswalzer
Journey to the End

If you really want to get into black metal though, I'd advise Burzum/Darkthrone/Mayhem/Bathory/etc.
My Journey to the Stars (Cover of a Burzum song by Nokturnal Mortum, with better production quality n' stuff)
Bathory - Enter the Eternal Fire (This album's absolutely essential)

edit: Bathory not Bathroy...

Most of time, i kind of feel same, but i do like some black metal, like Mayhem and early Behemoth black metal (I like new Behemoth too, obviously) and Darkthrone. Best one to me is which has one/three riffs and goes on for all eternity, like Transilvanian Hunger. I probably like Mayhem because they sound very death-ish. Oh, also Burzum is nice. And i like Depressive Suicidial Black Metal too, because i like the sad atmosphere and overall repetiveness of riffs.

I like Pennsylvanian Bunghole (Seriously, a black metal band from Pennsylvania)

Fuckin' Russians have done it again. (nsbm-ish rac metal thing)

Slavland - Palenica (Pagan/Folk black metal from the Poland, with REALLY fast drumming (machine?))

Fuckin' Rob Darken, I wonder what his farts smell like, probably like Kiełbasa and racism. (You know it's a good nsbm song when 90% of the comments are in Polish)

Gontyna Kry - Kruk Smierci (Polish bm)

Shame this band only put out 2 albums. And I haven't even listened to the other one. (Polish doom, but not slow doom, mid-paced doom with some clean singing)

Mgwa (Mgwa means fog I think)

Urfaust (Everyone and their grandma should listen to these Dutchmen, bm)

Heh, I don't know how well that would go over with your teacher if they found out what the NS in NSBM stands for.. but the nsbm bands I know are as follows:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The most well known out of those are probably Absurd, Nokturnal Mortum, Graveland, and possibly Hate Forest.
