Mine love Wii Sports, and MonkeyBall.
I've been thinking about getting SuperMonkeyBall. Heard good things about it, and it's tough finding games for kids that don't require certain thresholds of coordination and/or skill. She gets easily frustrated if the game is complex (for instance, all she does on the Raving Rabbids ones are games that involve holding the remote and nunchuck and running in place really fast). How complicated are the games in MonkeyBall?

Quite varied actually. The controls vary from simple gestures to more complex combinations of commands, and the games range from simple reaction based games to more demanding sequence games, or beating an AI in racing, FPS type games and so on. My 5 yr old tends to play a small selection of the range on offer, but loves Monkey Race, which is MarioKart "lite"...

Things may have changed, but, if memory serves, discussions in spam threads cause temporary forum outages when Mr. Adams deletes them. 502 errors, I think.

Hopefully we can turn this into real thread then so no need to completely remove it. The OP just needs to have the links removed.

IIRC the problem is that large numbers of posts in spambot threads encourage future visitations.

As far as kids video games go, I think there's vast, vast untapped potential in edutainment games. It's just that most developers forget the whole "fun" thing in favor of shoving information down the player's throat.

I'd love to make a proper one one day.

They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

When I was a kid my grandmother of like 90 played on her Super Nintendo and we would go over there to play Dr Mario and Yoshi's Island.

Man, I sucked at Dr. Mario SO MUCH!

Yet oddly enough, I was super awesome at the sailing game in Puzzle Pirates, which was basically the same thing except more complicated, and you had social pressure for you to succeed as well since failing effected the success of your team.

I hear that Minecraft is actually decent for kids, except that creepers might scare the shit out of them. Me? Well, i played Doom, Quake and Descent 2 back when i was a wee lad. And Starcraft. And Command & Conquer (Red Alert). Fun thing is, i played a whole lot more "adult" games than kids games when my age was still in the single digits. And by "adult" i do NOT mean "full of lovely porn", even though that'd also qualify for adult. I guess my tiny kid brain figured that they were way more fun than the perpetually condescending kids games, even though i didn't actually understand english at the time being. Ever tried starting a game through a main menu written in a language you don't understand at all? Now imagine that from the perspective of a 5 year old kid, who has no clue as to how main menus are usually structured. IT WAS CONFUSING.

Other than that, i don't know really. There's an ungodly quantity of match 3 games out there, they're simple enough that a kid could both play and understand them.

Also, side note: My 6 year old grandcousin plays Super Mario on his DS, so that's probably an option. The little guy is actually pretty good at both playing and explaining, much to my surprise. :P

I visited my sisters family last summer. I was terrified when I saw their 5 year old son play mw2 when I stepped in from their front door. Apparently he had seen his father play and asked if he can try too. Hus dad didnt have problem with that and showed him how to find server and everything. He wasnt too good, he seems to play mostly barret no scope so he doesnt get kills at all. Mayby when he finds zooming button, who knows.
I dont play cod games but still, I sometimes wonder if I really am playing with 5 year olds.

So remeber, when you have someone with 0:20 stats in your game and he uses tactics like barret noscope, you might be playing with this kid.

Hey, at least it's training the Finnish children for the next Winter War you guys are preparing for (lol).

I remember playing Rainbow 6 and Civilisation 2 on the PS2 as a kid. Then I moved on to Age of Mythology for about three years until Halo:CE reintroduced me to 'real' games.

I kinda did it all. Pen and Paper RPGs, board games, lots of home brews, Nintendo, Gameboy, Sega, Snes, Doom, Sierra games, tons of collectible card games, table top war games...and I even managed to play soccer for 5 years in there too. It was weird, after Doom it feels like I just ignored all things PC until, honestly, I think Everquest came out and I was like "Alright, I have to try this game, by any means necessary." And then began phasing out the console into obsolescence. Now I only play console games on rainy days.
