Fahim starts moving toward the emergency stairs "I need to get out."

Jack smiles, waving bemusedly. "So, being locked out of a room with books. First for me"

Nathan looks at Jack, then at the books, then back at Jack, then back at the books, then back at Jack.

"What's happening? One minute I'm standing around, the next, I'm covered in books. And then there's bodies floating around outside."

Nathan scratches at his beard.

[Gotdamnmiracle]

Fahim yells at Jack, with wild eyes "Have you seen them!? Have you seen everybody? Where did they go? Outside? How did they get there?!" Fahim burie his face in his hands.

Robert knows the gyro satlizer needs to be fixed. "You," he points at Jack "do you know where the gyro stablizer is?"

((I went downstairs, both of you.))

"We don't know what's happening. Are you ok?" Jack obviously doesn't see the overseer in the corner, he is obscured by a pile of books.

[Gotdamnmiracle]

((We followed you.))

Jack turns to Robert. "Yes. I do. Can you please calm him down?" He nods at Fahim "To get to the stabilizer we need to go up"

[Vorthon]

"I'm fine. I'm worried about the books. Some of the older ones might have been damaged when they fell..."

The overseer is long gone, leaving after seeing that these men were too shaken up to be of any use to him.

Some of the books are indeed damaged, and the older ones that nathan mentioned are in fact crumbling away from the abuse.

A sound can be heard at the bottom of the stair well outside of the archives.  Footsteps...but not those of shoes, or bare feet.

It almost sounds as if great piles of flesh are being sloshed up the stairs.  As the steps get a little bit closer, moaning can be heard;  frightful moaning, the moaning of tortured souls that are in eternal pain.  Tortured souls that were likely collected from this very ship. 

And at the corners of the mind, something can be felt ripping.  It would seem to be reality that was ripping, but this was no dream.  That ripping just happened to be at the seams of sanity in the mind, something that was very fragile; at least after humans left earth.

Humans are conditioned to face the horrors of their home planet through evolution; the brain easily recognizes common threats and puts us in a flight or fight stance.  No amount of evolution could prepare us for what was in the depths of deep space, and thus the human mind cannot cope.  The fight or flight feeling is increased to insanity, and indeed, many have lost their sanity in the depths of space.

"Ohhhh shit"Robert pulls out his Rangor Combat Assualt Rifle and set the setting from rubber bullets to regular. "Stay here, I got this." he said as he walked up the stairs.

"Time to go" Jack grabs Nathan and Fahim and drags them to the end of the stairs. Opening the escape door.

Heading up the stairs, Jack, Fahim, and Nathan get farther and farther away from the sloshing thing.  Robert goes up one level, and stops, proclaiming that he can hold off whatever's comeing up the stairs.  Jack opens the emergency door at the top of the steps slightly, only to find it barred by several people holding it closed.

They sound like children.  "No, you can't come in!  If we let you in then the black stuff will come and get us, just like it got our moms and dads!"

Those kids have a strong hold on the door.

The sloshing can still be heard, though the moans of tortured souls are faint.

Jack yells through the door. "Hey, I'm here to help. I can get you out of there"

"That's just it, we don't want out of here!" A lone voice piped up.

"That black stuff will get us just like it got my bunny when he got out of his cage!"
