After dissecting the issue from numerous angles, a consensus is reached: production of a battleship is to commence. The consortium is sent out to the construction yards in orbit above Hephaestus, and work on retooling several orbital shipyards begins. The estimate is that, with the industrial might of the system behind them, they will have a vessel up and ready for space-worthiness tests within three months.

As the AI had stored this detail away in some minor subroutine, it is recalled that there are no significant moons in the inner solar system. At most, they are captured asteroids of little consequence, a few kilometers wide and bereft of useful resources.

Aries is closely examined in a hydrological sense, and it is noted that nearly 60% of the ice caps as they exist now would have to be melted to start any semblance of a self-sustaining water cycle. No consensus has been reached on how to do this, although a few solar lenses are currently melting ice on a small scale. Bombs have been discussed, as well.

The notion of capturing several planetoids for use as interstellar ships is floated, but the unfortunate fact is that the technology to quickly and efficiently do this does not exist currently. Engines could be attached to a planetoid, but the scale is all wrong... it would take years, decades even, to move them into position using current methods. There are no convenient "tractor beams" or "gravity distortion devices" to easily move planetoid-sized objects. A small history subroutine does note, however, that the Moonies appeared to possess some sort of gravitational manipulation device.

In the remaining shipyards, hydrogen scoopers are laid down. The first few even begin deploying late in the month. They will begin to deposit their gains in an orbital storage tank above Hephaestus.

Routes are calculated between planets, in a way that can use energy, but these truly vary from day to day, as the motions of the planets take them around the star. Using the military technology, several mass drivers are set up on each planet along the equator to launch cargo from one planet's surface to another planet's orbit. Testing is still underway, however, as software glitches nearly sent the first potential payload on a ballistic trajectory into one of the larger Gaian city-states.

Quite unexpectedly, at the end of the month, the naval base in the asteroid belt sends a startling message:

Craft bearing a Moonie ambassador has arrived. Please send instructions.

This baffles the negotiators, as no real specifics for a meeting had been set down. It is very much out of the blue. And now there's very little time for planning.

Time lapsed in system: 7 years, 6 months

This subroutine detects a trap. So bring one in return. First thing first, apologize to the moonies for any delay that might be caused and give them small trinkets and "gifts" of information about our culture (only minor things.) and a physical picture of our sun. If they must leave within a month, it is understandable, but at least they will have things to take back with them to show that we wish to be friendly with them.

Second, task, create a group of representatives to sent to greet them. I recommend two Marvins, One from Aquarius, One from Aries, and three people to represent all of Gaia. Give the Gaians two weeks to decide or they will be left out of the negotiations. All of them are to be escorted by 5 Combat drones, each one equipped with nanobots designed to reconfigure all atoms into more nanobots for a total of 1 hour and then all nanobots, even those created, shut down.

I want the team there in 1 month.

p.s. The trap only goes off if a sign of hostilities (death of at least 2 members of the group) is detected.

The Pilot and their cargo handlers paused when they saw that the entire camp is covered in eldritch runes coated in blood. And rotting monkey corpses everywhere..

They decide that they didn't get paid enough for this..

How fast do these people's ships fly? Are they stealthed? If the answers are relatively slow and no, prepare to fire all scouts and such near that base. There are no obstructions that block view in space, and we're in a Cold war situation here, so they should have seen that ship coming a long time ago.

I think there should be non Gaian non Mavens too,...

There are representitives from each planet.
But not from each population group on each planet.

We dont want to keep the Moonies waiting for too long or they might leave. plus, this might be a good chance to share technology.

We can pretty well represent all population groups ourself, except maybe the Gaians, but they're basically a separate nation (well, group of nations, really). I think we should use this opportunity to normalize relations between our civilizations. Maybe we can set up an embassy with each other, or at least agree to regular contact. Find out everything we can about Moonie culture and technology, without giving away too much about our own technology.

I agree with all that is above, with the addition of two regular beings from Aries and Aquarius.

I should clarify. I ment just that. Two marvens. one human from Aries. One human from aquarius.

Startup Completed.

> I suggest that the AI be present in the meeting as well. speakers? Translator drones?
Also, veto use of marvens ((is that how you spell it?)) as ambassadors. Obsessive knowledge seekers = bad ambassadors.
> check data and memory banks for location of nuke / who can access. Make backup (nuke) if unknown. We haven't checked properly. Especially with defective memory banks.
> Make gifts for moonie ambassador. Also offer to trade tech / other stuff.

((ooc: this is brilliant! Kudos to everyone involved!))

I would ask why fire can burn two men to death without getting hot enough to burn a book, but then I read "INEXTINGUISHABLE RUNNING KAMIKAZE RADIOACTIVE FLAMING ZOMBIE" and realized that logic, reason, and physics are all occupied with crying in the corner right now.

Technically they are "Mavens," although it strikes me that "Marvens" could be used derogatorily.

Sorry. With the last few posts it seems no one spells it the same.

EDIT: also, other possible things:
>construct a load more of the kamikaze rocket bots. We don't know what the battleship guys are planning.
> try to get the quantum computer to make a translation program, and give results to moonies to study (as well as the humans).

So close to Marvin.... (the paranoid android)
I find moonies funny too, considering that we got lunatic (loonies) from luna.
