That beginning was very much Vanod yes. The battle mecha and such later on seemed a bit unrelated.

You can watch both MD Geist movies on youtube, just so you know.

I watched a bit of this back in the 80s, I never understood why he was walking around with a bullet hole in his forehead all the time.  Of course I dont think the VHS bootleg I saw had any kind of translation, and also I was probably like 10...

I don't even know MD Geist. I just kind of pine for anime that hasn't been completely white-washed. 80s anime was graphic and violent and, well, adult. I can't remember the last modern anime where someone gets shot in the head and they do the classic "oh shit, my eyeball is going that way but my shattered brain mass is going this way!" Imagine how you felt at the end of Million Dollar Baby, that's how you felt at the end of most 80s anime :P

Anyways, yes, probably enough of a derail. Although Vanod is to your average DF playthrough what 80s anime is to modern anime.

I get the feeling that Vanod and Guts would get along quite well.

This is amazing.

With a spear and a handful of mutated chicken one blonde vaguely Swedish-metalhead looking caveman decides omnicide is the answer.

ha. fist of the north star. classic, truly a corny, classic, wonderful, anime.
