All humans can do some magic if taught, but true mastery takes a very long time. Right now the only competant person is Paul(possibly the old man too). The only reason you can actually do magic is because of the occasional magic lesson from guest speakers from the wizards tower. The rest of the party(except for the soldiers) have similar educations to yours.
Also, on sources of info, they basically fill out the notes(just whatever Obek can see otherwise) and allow you to do things. You chose an educated person, so you pretty much get a break with this, but if you try to do something you know nothing about, then there is a large chance that you will screw up horribly. Books only count in circumstances where you have the time to actually read them and getting permanent information(memorizing a book pretty much) takes some time.
And Nuke, that wasnt a hint, thats just a fact. Going fast is its own reward. Especially with rampaging demon(from the perspective of this game, shits beyond a rampage in Demonhood time).
You tell everyone else that you are gonna go find some books. This is met by groans from the soldiers and exclamations of "Thats not such a bad idea." From the scholars. The old man does not care, as he is wearing his rabbit on his head. You ask him what his name is, but he proudly states that he is Stillmount. Barring some sort of odd avatar of a city thing, you highly doubt he is Stillmount. However it would imply that Lord Walter owns him. Once you answer with that, the old man runs back into the castle. 5 minutes pass and the old man returns, ecstatic that Walter told him to "Get the hell out of the castle!" and he had complied and thus fulfilled his duties.
You then leave in search of books. The market mostly sells either food and tools for the peasants or luxuries for the rich. Books are in relatively short supply, as this city does not have an university as Dolnar-On-Barr did. You spend several hours, simply searching for anything. You tried libraries, but they would not sell their books. After a while, however you meet up with the old man. He asks you for some coins, and you choose to give some to him. He tells you to wait and runs off. He soon returns, with 2 books and hands them to you. One a military manual, and the other a cookbook. You ask the old man where he got them. He tells you that the rabbit sold them to him. Soon after, a person from the library runs by and asks you if you have seen anyone carrying any books, cause some got stolen. By this point you had hidden the books behind your back, so luckily he did not see them. The person then runs off again.
Safe from capture, you grab the old man and drag him back to the rest of your group and attempt to leave as soon as you can. The old man is still adamant that he bought the books fair and square, and that the only one at fault is the provider, who is the rabbit sitting in his lap. You continue on your journey after a day of rest.
The rest of the way, you see no bandits and it all goes peacefully. Either there simply werent any, or they heard of your almost nonexistant reputation. You do have some reputation with 24 prisoners though. It takes another 4 days to get to Barrsmouth and what you see is more city than any in Barrtal. A bustling port, where traders come and go. Trade ships from everywhere accessible by boat, from the far reaches of Tokzoku to Mughae, bringing spices and luxury goods in exchange for the goods that Nagaron gets from selling food to the Eastern Confederacy and its own liquers. The trade is extremely profitable to Nagaron, and is what drives its prosperity.
There are many places where you could search for the Gehenna family, from the inns and questioning the peasantry, up to going directly to the lord of this city, or asking for access to the town records. So, where do you search?
