You choose to help them, even though a large portion of you does not wish to. Two dozen versus eight does not lead to good odds, but at least you have the element of suprise, you hope. You come up with the idea of a poison smoke bomb and tell everyone your plan. It will take a bit of effort on part of the relatively magically inept scholars, but minor illusions shouldnt be too hard to make.

You all spend a while looking for ingredients. The area around here is not a jungle filled with poisonous plants, but you somehow manage to find enough for 5 smoke bombs, the strength of which you are uncertain of. Clay is easily found on the banks of the river. You only have a single candle, coming from the devout Paul who took it along for a little shrine, but its enough wax. The bits of string you have to take from your own clothes.

In the end, you, Paul, the two soldiers for their good throwing arms and a scholar are carrying poison smoke bombs. You then ask the man where the camp is. He seems happy about the fact that you chose to help him, but also looks oddly worried, when you show him the bombs. You bring it up, but he brushes it off by saying he is worried that the prisoners might get poisoned.

The man then starts to lead you, but you keep a keen eye on him and your surroundings. He leads you into a nearby forest, and then onwards. He finally leads you to a small valley like formation, with hills on both sides. Paul tells everyone to stop for a moment, and the man suddenly becomes extremely worried. Paul whispers to you, that he saw movement behind the hills. You pull out the smoke bombs, and light them with the most basic of magic tricks. You both lob your bombs at the same time, before the man can react, nor before the ones behind the hill can.

A few moments, you can hear a bang, and clouds of smoke come from behind the hills. Some birs that had perched themselves atop the trees fall down with, breaking some branches on the way down, before doing a smack upon hitting the ground.

You hear a furious coughing coming from behind the hills. You wait a while, until the coughing stops, and then move forward, over the hills. The man who lead you here looks like he is gonna pass out, with all the shaking and sweating. As you cross the hills, you see a sight you did not expect to see when you came up with this plan. All but a single person knocked out. The single one who is awake is perched against a tree, apparently in deep thought about what he will do now, upon seeing you he simply flees as fast as he can.

Upon closer inspection, only a single one of the bandits is dead. All the rest are simply knocked out, or on the ground, having the ocasianal seizure and screaming about someone called Crinkle. You put it down to the hallucinogenic effects of whatever you put into those bombs.

You now have 23 knocked out bandits at your whim, and a person who is apparently deeply concerned about this fact. What do you do with them? And what do you do with the runaway? He does not have a horse, so you have the speed advantage.

Jesus fucking christ, first you roll for the maximal amount of bombs made, then you easily notice the ambush, and THEN you knock out everyone but a single person. You didnt even need to do the illusions. Hell, I was expecting having to cut the battle into two updates or more. And the minimal amount of the bandits died.

If we have any sort of rope (if not, cut their clothing to make some), tie them all up including the guy who brought you here.  Then ride down the bugger who fled and bring him in as well.  We'll just drag them all to the nearest town and see if there's a bounty.

And yeah... hopy shit.

Also, loot the bandits! They may have something useful. Or at least few coins (and we will know that no one has hidden weapons).

Plus there should be a reward for hunting down some bandits.

Also I suspect that the concerned person really is a bandit as well. Tie him up as well just in case.

You send a soldier after the runner. He quickly mounts a horse and speeds off towards the runner. He proves harder to catch than expected, as he found a small burrow and attempted to climb into it. Luckily one of his feet didnt quite fit, and the soldier notices it. He pulls him out by his leg, and drags him back to you, all the while he desperately claws at the ground.

Meanwhile, back at the ambush, you have been looking around for rope or anything to tie them all up. You need enough for 24 people after all. In the end you resort to tying them together with their own clothes. Obviously you spent the stronger materials on the bulkier looking bandits, but rope made of clothes can be easily torn. You simply have to hope they dont attempt to tear their bonds apart.

You then search through what they have. A few coins, some metal trinkets and a live rabbit(?) which the old man immediatedly claims as his own, and shoves the rabbit into his robes. You should really give him a name. To the old man, not the rabbit.

All that remains is to wait for the bandits to wake up. It takes them the rest of the evening and they soundly sleep almost till noon, until one of the soldiers becomes impatient and wakes them all up with a personal kick to the ribs to every single one. Not a friendly person, if you were to hazard a guess. You dont bother to feed the bandits, as have limited supplies as is, its been awhile since the last time you saw a proper town. You continue onwards, at a far slower pace than before, due to the prisoners slowing you down.

Soon signs of a keep appear on the horizon, as you get closer, you begin to see the signs of a village and then that of a large town. If you were to guess, you are two thirds of the way to Barrsmouth, making this the town of Stillmount. You dont know anything about this town with the exception of its name. However the large and imposing keep suggest that this part of the world has seen its share of troubles.

As you get closer and closer to the town, you start attracting attention. Guardsmen become agitated at the sight of around three dozen people marching towards them, and tell everyone what they can see. When you finally arrive, you are greeted by the sight of locked gates and archers with their bows drawn sitting on the wooden fortifications. You give them a friendly wave, and sit outside the gate until someone with authority shows up. Finally someone does, a man in ludicrously fancy armour, that is studded with all manner of gems. He introduces himself as Lord Walter, ruler of Stillmount and the surrounding areas, except in far more words.

When he finally stops introduing himself, he asks why you have come, especially when you are to be arrested on sight, apparently ignorant to the fact that the bandits are tied up. You respectfully remind him of that, causing Lord Walter to recoil and attempt to play it off as an easy mistake to make. Obviously he also immediately noticed that the two solders were from Barrtal, obviously.

The standoff continues. He asks to know on what business you are on, where you are headed, and how you have managed to capture two dozen bandits with just the eight of you?

And you ask to know from yourself, what will you do when you gain entry to the town?

Tell him the truth in a way that signals for better and stronger rope to be used in bounding the Brutes.
