I have absolutely no clue what you are talking about.

Obviously you jump, using a wagon, from one cliff to the other (or to the ground) in epic hollywood movie style!
Michael Bay would replace that wagon with the International Space Station.

I'm going to make a long tunnel sort of fort, moria style, including...
terraforming the moutains above such that they actually are inpenterable.
The new burro system which should help *immensly*, just send a seasonal food and drink supply to a gate outpost etc.
Bridges of huge pits, but ones that might have a very deep bottom.
Barlogs? who knows!

Build fort, see what happens. Base camps down in the depths to keep pushing my soldiers deeper and deeper.

This is what I was thinking, but with a home base of expert smiths to equip my soldiers. No clue how I'll deliver the equipment though.

1. Take advantage of the new training-cycle system so that every adult civilian in the fortress spends one month of the year training with crossbows whilst the Fortress and Royal Guard specialise in melee weapons.
2. Carve fortifications into every outer wall.
3. Wait for a goblin siege to turn up.
4. Make a mint selling goblin skull totems, narrow cave-spider silk underwear and slightly-used narrow iron platemail to the next caravan.
5. Repeat ad infinitum.

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

With the new custom workshops, a challenge comes to mind:

Mod every workshop to require magma.
