I guess I can take a migrant.
Name: Monte-Cristo
AKA: Various aliases
Job: Mechanic if possible. Also, Part-Time Engraver.

Monte comes to Steelbow in an efort to distance himself from something. He does not tell many people his plans. He places traps in all sorts of strange places and seems to have a deep-conceled hatred of Nobility (if there are any class-wars coming up, make him a leader please). He also wants a very nice room, which he will trap and engrave himself. If this is to much to ask, feel free to draft him, or kill him in some ironic way.

8th Timber
Not much has happened lately. The most amazing thing has been a migrant showed up. Just one. He was lost and saw our living quarters and came to investigate. He is trained as a siege operator.

17th Timber
Sigun Isonnil has been possessed. He made a bee line for the workshop Omath was in and threw him out claiming it. He then proceeded to claim 3 pieces of limestone and has been working since then.

22nd of Timber
Sigun Isonnil has finished his project. Shoseledos, it is encrusted with limestone and encircled with bands of limestone. On it is an image of dwarves in limestone. the dwarves are laboring.

3rd of Moonstone
Parrot is no longer bed ridden. Although he may be able to walk around he has lost his left eye to the boar. However his spiders follow him around.

8th of Opal
The military recruit Minkot Gongitherith has given birth to a baby boy.

(Insert joke here)

23rd of Opal
Another child. Zan Sazirmat has given birth to a baby girl.

9th of Obsidian
Today is a sad day. Istria has finally died. She refused to eat until she starved to death.

Istria's dying words

Curse you all, you have betrayed me. Omath, now I understand. You had me elected mayor so that you could get rid of me while blaming me for all your shortcomings. I had thought you were crazy but now I recognize a true political genius.

My request for a library has not been fulfilled so I will not rest in peace. I shall haunt these halls until my request is granted. Be prepared, you who enter these halls. I shall teach you the true power of books, ignorant fools. Your swords shall break, your fields shall wither, catpult accidents will befall on your children until you recognize the worth of scriptures.

Strife, I'll give you the new siege operator and pull our 2 mechanics over to hauling. However your room won't be engraved since the entire fort will be built out of constructed walls.
Kjartan, sorry but you've kind of been put out of a job by the continuous Kentauri caravans. Since the population cap is at 50 and the Kentauri show up with several wagons we have had lots of food. Last I saw you and your merry band of farmers were hauling gems.
Loddum has been working with Riana making bins for our several hundred bars of metal.
Akroma has been making nothing but copper short swords and has put a nice dent in our copper supply.
Parrot is training to build up stats and has been training our 4 new giant spiders. Also you are a legendary animal caretaker.
Rostov has been doing nothing but practicing at the archery range.
Omath has been doing nothing but making bone ammo for Rostov to practice.

If you have any requests on something feel free to ask and I'll see what I can do.
If you want a leader other then Rostov just I'll be taking votes.
There have been no more goblins for some reason, not even a baby snatcher. I'm kind of upset since we had been selling their cloths to buy things. But now we have run out.
We were unable to talk to the liason this year since we had no mayor when he showed up. I'm not sure but this might mean that last years trade deal will be used again. If so we will need a lot of money as they bring a lot of gems.

There will be no update until Saturday due to exams. However I will say this, the tower for our living quarters is growing very large. I think it is at 4 or 5 floors and an attachment is under way. There will be a library but not until the residence is done. Also the residence will be very big.

Hello, dear journal. We meet again.
Today is/

(The page is torn here. Several pages are missing.)

_____/18th of (splotch of ink)
I'm the new mayor, apparently.
It seems that XXsome peopleXX aren't taking this very well, namely Loddum...

Such a coward. He can burn in (the writing becomes increasingly illegible. Various scratches litter the next few pages.)

(A few drawings of a dwarf named Parrot, spiders, and frightened dwarves. There are many depictions of a dwarf named Loddum, who has been characterized by demon horns.

Many empty pages. Near the end of the journal, however...)

It's the 25th of Opal, journal.
It's been way too long in this fort and people can't figure out whether I'm a male or a female.
Jeez.

It's the 9th of Obsidian. Istria died.
Too sad. Never knew her. Him. It. Whatever.

Rostov is female  :)
First year:

quote:
11th Granite
Loddum has returned with yet another kill. Rostov was ordered to butcher them since she had the most survivalist training. For some reason Loddum turned pale white when we told him that we would be needing his skills a great deal for the next little while. And almost fainted when we told him that we may be building the fort out of wood.

Monte-Cristo:

You have no friends. You're god takes the form of a Male Dwarf and is associated with water, nature, the sun and day.

2nd of Granite
A couple of kobold thieves were spotted. Unfortunately they both escaped.

14th of Granite
Loddum has been possessed. He was making some extra beds and suddenly turned white and began talking in tongue. He then ran from the carpenter workshop he was working in to the carpenter workshop Riana was in and threw her out. He then ran off grabbing some rough gems and the logs he had just been using and returned. He has been working since then.
Also the Kentauri are back again. This time with only 6 wagons though.

*I'm getting some major FPS drops.
**DF Companion is working again. Says we have 18 gobbos and 4 child snatchers.

16th of Granite
Goblins, again. They jumped the caravan on the way in. Crossbows too. They took down one of the caravans guards, but they lost their leader and fled. The caravan is regrouping in case more are in the area. Kjartan went to try to loot the corpses and Rostov yelled at him telling him to stay inside until the all clear was given.

17th of Granite
A Goblin Child snatcher was found in one of the cage traps.

And DF just crashed.

1st of Granite
A couple of Kobold were spotted. They were found by Rostov but apparently he thought that target practice against still targets was better then moving targets and let the kobolds escape.

13th of Granite
The new Siege operator Monte-Cristo ha convinced the other mechanics to set up more traps at the entrance. They have collected 40 of Akroma's copper short swords and are rigging them to kill anything unfriendly that enters.

14th of Granite
The Kentauri have returned. 7 wagons this time.

*So have the FPS drops. Coincidence?
**19 Gobbos, of which 4 are child snatchers and 4 have bows.

16th of Granite
Goblins, again. They jumped the caravan on the way in. The caravan guard took them out quite quickly. No causalities. Also one goblin got caught in a cage trap.
Also fox chased a goblin thief out of some bushes.

Alas I spoke to soon. Just before the last mule made it in the goblins attacked again. One of the guards was killed.

17th of Granite
We should give that fox a medal, it has already found 2 goblin thieves.
Anyway Akroma has been struck with a strange mood.

21st of Granite
A couple more Goblins have wandered into our traps. Akroma has finished collecting everything that she needs. She has rough heliodors, logs, some granite blocks and some copper bars.

*As soon as Akroma was hit with the mood I forbid every bar except some steel we bought a while back. But she still grabbed the forbidden copper.

25th of Granite
Akroma has finished her project and created Sodelmorul, a large copper serated disk. It is encrusted with heliodor and menaces with spikes of copper. On it is an image of snow-capped mountains in cedar and an image of a squash in granite. She also now know how to make even the greatest of weapons.

*Akroma is a legendary weaponsmith. You know what that means. Bye bye gobbos.

26th of Granite
For every up there is a down. The child Kivish stopped eating has has starved to death.

6th of Slate
The Dungeon Master has arrived.

18th of Slate
The Kentauri have left. They won't be gone long though.

11th of Felsite
Akroma has given birth to another girl. She has named it Ineth. She is now walking around carrying both Ineth and Kivish

13th of Hematite
Not much has happened these past months. A human and kentauri caravan has arrived today.
*Minor FPS drops. Nothing major.

15th of Hematite
The merchant caravan apparently came because they wanted to meet the great Rostov. He is legendary in the kingdoms of the plains. Surely with such a strong figure leading us we could not possibly be defeated.

16th of Hematite
Loddum has demanded to Parrot to join the military.

17th of Hematite
Election day results: Rostov Loses
Thats right, Rostov Sarveshnokgol, the legendary champion marksdwarf, lost the latest election. In his place Momuz the Jeweler won. All hail Momuz Bistoklokum.
Loddum was so thrilled he burst into the forge and made himself a silver mace.

26th of Hematite
Momuz our new mayor has suddenly withdrawn from society.

27th of Hematite
Momuz has claimed a jeweler's workshop and collected together some rough emeralds, some platinum and some chrysoberyls.
*Note: If when using companion on the list of materials needed says unallocated don't try to change it. Momuz is lucky I managed to fix him in time.

13th of Malachite
Momuz has finished his work and made Kegethkacoth an emerald bucket. It is encircled with bands of Emerald. The handle is make from platinum. This object menaces with spikes of Platinum. On it is an image of Marlins in Emerald. On it is an image of a Saguaro in platinum, On it is an image of tall crosses in chrysoberyls.
It is estimated to be worth 312,000. Effectively doubling the fortress worth.
*The handle is made from platinum? That is a new one on me.

14th of Malachite
The caravan has left.

10th of Limestone
It was been very quiet these past months. We have dug out a small area for sand collection above the forges in the hopes of producing glass. When expanding the granite mine we came across a vien of native silver. Whoever we are yet to mine it out since we have no idea when we may need it. The residence tower is almost large enough to hold the entire fortress population. And finally the dwarven caravan has arrived. They brought 5 wagons this year. Lets see what they brought.

14th of Limestone
The Kentauri caravan has returned. Towing behind them 7 wagons.

25th of Limestone
Well, we all knew this day would come. We have run out of malachite.

Looking at the stocks we seem to be down to one quarter the magnetite we had to start. Although this isn't as bad as it may seem since most of the metal is yet to be used. The only things we have used it for have been an electrum scepter demanded by Rostov and 263 copper short swords made by Akroma.

8th of Sandstone
The dwarven caravan has left. They promise to bring many useful goods next year.

11th of Sandstone
The Kentauri have left.

13th of Sandstone
Sibrek has been possessed. He awoke suddenly and ran to a Mosus' workshop and claimed it.

18th of Sandstone
Sibrek has finished collecting the materials he needs. He has collected 2 limestone, 1 granite, 1 tube agates, 2 iron bars and 2 rough rock crystal.

22nd of Sandstone
Sibrek has finished his project. He remembers nothing of the past 9 days.
He has made Zimkeledos. It is encircled with bands if iron and rock crystal. It is adorned with hanging rings of Limstone and menaces with spikes of granite, Tube agate and rock crystal. On it there is an image of an Emerald Bucket in limestone and an image of a dwarf in Iron.

27th of Sandstone
Zan Sazirmat has given birth to a baby girl. She has named it Melbil.

6th of Timber
Momuz has demanded that we produce some Kelshinral items. What is kelshinral? I asked that too. After hours of searching I finally found the information I was looking for in one of Istria's old books. It is a very rare material sometimes found in native silver, igneous intrusive rock and native aluminium. We did hit some native silver a while back and are going to mine it out in hopes of meeting this demand but the odds that there is any is slim.
*3 Steps in I hit Horn silver. Almost no chance of getting this mandate fu lfilled.

11th of Timber
Nothing but silver. A lot of it. But no kelshinral ore.

I think I'll leave it there for the weekend. Just a point, Loddum has been transfered to the military. He has about a year and a half of training ahead of him before he is even allowed to touch a weapon. Let alone fight. By then he should be a triple or quadruple legendary.
And Rostov is just watching the woodcutters to make sure they don't get jumped.

There will be no update from this for at least a while since exams are almost over and I am moving home for the summer. I will have to move the save and raws to usb storage to move it over but if that doesn't work this fort may end right here right now. I'll have more information in 1 to 2 weeks, maybe more.

Well sorry but I forgot to save the files onto my USB before I packed up my computer. So this community fort is effectively dead. In total I think we had 9 claimed dwarves. Maybe in a few months when I unpack my computer I will resurrect this fort. Or maybe start a new one.
Anyway, we had a good run. Over 3 years played. Good for my first community fort. And I learned a lot about how to play the game, that most players enjoy having military dwarves that are thrown into the worst situations, that peaceful valuable fort locations are not very good for community forts, that caravans shouldn't come that often and no matter where you go, there you are.
