Does anyone even care about this? We only have 6 named dwarves and no one has made a comment.

Sorry, My mother came in from Washington to visit my pregnant sister, but my sister's not been very warm to her, so I've used that as an excuse to spend time with my mommy  ;)

I'll write something soon, I swear.

Loddum's Log, 1st of Granite.
We arrived in a frigging JUNGLE! The first thing Kira did was comment on how overjoyed I must be to be able to expand my craft here. I nodded and didn't say anything. I KNEW I should have read the description of the site we were coming to, unfortunately I had to keep low and stay out of the signup hall after I noticed a familiar face in the hall. It was fortunate that the hammerer didn't see me as we departed. I thought those guys never left their fortresses! It worries me greatly that he is still hunting me. That noble really wanted his chair. I think I know a solution for my problem. First I will insist that everything I make is of the highest quality, and when questioned I will insist I was too busy helping to secure our food to actually work to decent standards in the carpenter's shop. If I turn it back on them that they are taking up my precious time, perhaps I will be able to get them to back down. My time is too valuable to hear them complain about my work, after all!

11th Granite
THE FORT, OUT OF WOOD!!!
I almost puked! It was horrid. I have to go kill something, I can't handle this!

20th Granite
I managed to convince everyone it wasn't shoddy work, but shoddy materials. I told them it's not my fault the beds all have splinters, that tower cap wood would have solved this. Thank goodness we didn't have much so they could compare. On the bright side, I think I might be doing a bit better at this.

15th Slate
What the heck is Rostov's problem! She asks me why I am out hunting rather then making carpenter's goods. I tell her it's because we need food, and she gets on my case about not doing my share to help people! ME! My time is too valuable to stoop to helping others. I have much too much to do. I have got to both pull off pretending to be an expert carpenter AND improve my fighting skills in case that hammerer tracks me here! Damn busybody Rostov! She's lucky I don't know how to craft secret drawers in beds yet, or I'd craft one, WITH A PURRING MAGGOT IN IT! Damn Egdothtashem. (Bowpuller.)

Kjartan's saguaro log, 1st of Granite
-Well, we've arrived. Currently, Kira is surveying the area. It sure is... green. Grow-y. Groovy. Haha...

Kjartan's oaken log, 10th of Granite
-Well, I suppose we'll be holing up in the dirt until we have proper earthen niches in which to rest. For some reason, Loddum has disappeared off to somewhere, hunting down boars it would seem. Which means no beds until he returns!

Kjartan's willow log, 20th of Granite
-We've finally dug out the chambers. Now we have proper earthen niches in which to rest our weary bones after a hard day's work, heh...

Kjartan's mangrove log, 1st of Slate
-Kira has informed me of the plans for our future farming. It's pretty impressive, I suppose. I'll probably enjoy it.

Kjartan's candlenut log, 1st of Hematite
-Busy busy busy. Been planting seeds all day.

10th Hematite
We have begun on the construction of a wooden palisade around the entrance. Just putting a few logs around the entrance to keep thieves and animals out. Nothing extravagant since we will be replacing it with a stone wall and houses later. Loddum seemed thrilled to stop making bins for my crafts. Probably thinks that this project will be bigger then it actually is.

14th Hematite
We have begun digging out the granite that the fort will be built out of. It will take a lot but there is plenty here.

15th Hematite
Not much has happened except earlier today I uncovered some emeralds in the granite. I have decided to dig around them and wait till I am more skilled before I try to remove them.

1st Malachite
Omath has begun producing all of the granite blocks that we will need for a proper fort. He said he could make it out of rough stone but if you're going to do something you should do it right.
Also he wants us to color code the fort. The orthoclase doors will be related to food production. Thats the only section that has been built so far so the other colors will have to wait.

8th Malachite
I watched Rostov head down the staircase into the lowest levels. I followed her and she said he enjoyed sitting the orthoclase mine when she didn't have anything else to do.

10th Malachite
A few markers for the outer wall have been put in place. Construction should begin soon.

16th Malachite
We have begun construction on the outer wall. I should be strong enough to keep even trolls at bay. Also, since she didn't have anything else to do Rostov has begun turning the turtle bones into seratote to practice with.

Special Note:
As of the 10th of Galena Loddum became a carpenter and is now competent.

1st Limestone
Not much has happened recently. Rostov has been shooting the seratote he fired off at a small archery range he set up. I don't blame him. To keep myself occupied I've been helping the masons build the wall. Haven't been of much help but I hate just standing around. Also we will need to rethink the plans for the framing tower. I had dug some more of it out when I hit damp stone and realized there is a pond directly over head. It will have to be drained if we want to expand this to the full 4 floors.

Another Note: On the 7th of Limestone Kira has become Legendary

12th Limestone
Istria came running back like there was a giant spider chasing her. When she stopped we asked her what she was running from.
"WILD BOARS"
"..."
Loddum: "Ha, I should go out there and show them whose boss, where is my mace?"
Rostov: "No you can go make barrels, if anyone is going to go it will be me."
"Why I've already had some experience hunting the boars around here and I know the terrain. Give me one good reason why I should let you go."
Rostov pointed his b‰mbularros at Loddum "Because at 150ft I could take off your head. At this range I can't miss."
Istria: "Also the caravan has arrived in the north."
Omath stepping between Loddum and Rostov while pushing the weapon away from anyone: "You heard her, the caravan is on its way and we should make them welcome. Go collect the trade goods."

14th Limestone
We purchased all of the plants and meat from the caravan, as well we bought most of the cheese since we can't make an of that here. Loddum seemed overjoyed that we had purchased some one-humped camel cheese. We also bought the only metal and gems they had as well as some pig tail cloth. To bad we don't have a weaver or we might be able to get some nice pig tail beds instead of these splintered wooden ones. I still can't believe that Loddum used our only tower-caps on bins. However his work is improving dramatically.

17th Limestone
Istria met up with a kobold thief. She promptly cut its leg off then when it was on the ground she cleaved its head in two. Then continued with cutting down trees.

18th Limestone
Another kobold thief showed up today. This time the caravan guard took care of it.

3rd Sandstone
Sweet Armok, why did the king send us here? I was digging out some of the ground to set up the wall and all of a sudden the ground begins to collapse. I jumped back and heard a bizarre splash. When I looked down the hole I saw none other then a magma vent. Magma, we are sitting in the middle of a limestone forest and we hit a magma vent. Not just a magma vent either. I saw some of the creature inside the vent. Spiders, giant fucking spiders that swim in the magma and can breath fucking fire. We're going to avoid the magma for now as none of use has the skills to utilize it. Although this does cause a slight problem considering how we are going to set up the wall as it was supposed to be going through where the vent is now.

The Events of 12th Limestone, From Loddum's Perspective.
Omath: "Omath thinks that Loddum's barrels leak too much. Omath doesn't appreciate Loddum's barrels loosing all of Omath's hard work..."
Loddum: "It's not my fault. The wood here is too porous! It isn't meant to hold liquid! I do my best, but some woods aren't suited for the task, besides my efforts have been..."
Istria comes running in, shouting: "WILD BOARS!"
Loddum: "Ha, I should go out there and show them whose boss, where is my mace?"
Rostov: "No you can go make barrels, if anyone is going to go it will be me."
Loddum: "Why I've already had some experience hunting the boars around here and I know the terrain. Give me one good reason why I should let you go."
Rostov pointed his b‰mbularros at Loddum: "Because at 150ft I could take off your head. At this range I can't miss."
Loddom reached for where his mace would go and starts advancing at Rostov menacingly.
Istria: "Also the caravan has arrived in the north."
Omath stepped between Loddum and Rostov while pushing Rostov's crossbow in a different direction: "You heard her, the caravan is on its way and we should make them welcome. Go collect the trade goods."
Loddom shot a glare at Rostov: "This isn't over, not by a long shot."
Rostov: "It will be."
Loddom: "Not if I get close..."
Rostov: "Exactly!"
Kira: "Enough! Work! Now!"

Loddum's Log, 13th Limestone
Rostov frustrates me. I don't know what I can do about her, but someday I will have the opportunity, and then she will pay for her attitude!

3rd Sandstone
In my old fort, they whispered rumors of orässethal. Never in a single rumor did I hear that they breathe fire! FIRE! What kind of thrice-damned fortress did I sign up for?!

11th Sandstone
Another thief appear, I dispatched it quickly.

13th Sandstone
The caravan has left. They promised to return next year and see what we do have done with our new magma vent.

7th Timber
Some migrants have arrived. Our population has been brought up to 14. Included in the migrants were: 1 bowyer, 1 gem cutter, 1 weaponsmith, 1 metalworker, 1 peasant, 1 cheesemaker and 1 bone carver.

3rd Moonstone
We have begun digging out a metalworking and glass working area. It should use the magma to fuel it.

20th Moonstone
The finishing touches are all that is left on the new area. The wall holding back the magma has been channeled out and soon we will have a source of unlimited fuel.

22nd Moonstone
We have hit another vein of malachite in our exploratory mining. That makes this the third vein that we know of. We will begin mining it out to train our new weaponsmith and furnace operator. If only we could find some magnetite in this limestone we could have all the steel we would ever need.

13th Opal
Kogsak and I mined out 2 of the malachite veins to make sure that there would be plenty of metal for the new metal works. I don't see why we need so much since we still need an anvil. Although I did notice something odd, a malachite vien went off in 5 different directions at once. Kogsak doesn't care too much about it but she spent most of the time we were mining sleeping. Oh well, I love her still.

20th Obsidian
After digging out another exploratory shaft we struck galena. As well we decided to dig out a stair case to the metalsmithing area for easy access to the ores.

1st Granite
One year. One year ago we struck the earth and here we are now, we have double our numbers, produced many stone crafts, the outer wall is half done, we have a metalsmithing/glassworks that will survive for decades and a farming area dug out that could feed 500 dwarves. Lets see what the next year has to show us.

And here is the fortress map after one year.

I'll take the Bowyer.
Name: Kael (If Male) or Riana (If female)

Also, you mentioned pig tail beds, which mod has that? (It may make me stop using vanilla DF)

Currently they just use one piece of cloth since I haven't balanced it out yet. This is one of the extras I had added. Actually it is the only extra I added since I saved the rest to the wrong folder. No stacks of 100 green glass ammo for us.

Anyway here is Riana:

Her only friend is Momuz the gem cutter and her god takes the form of a female dwarf and is associated with war, fortresses, minerals, jewels and wealth. Glad to have you with us. Soon you will start making crossbows.

16th Granite
A Kentauri Caravan was coming through the area when they spotted the new fort we were building and decided to come and trade. Lets see what they have to offer.

24th Granite
We sold off all of the stuff the kobold thieves left us and some rock mugs for some food, leather and an anvil. With any luck we should be able to start building weapons and other goods.

19th Slate
The Kentauri Caravan has left but they promised to return int he summer. I'm going to have to start making more goods to sell.

Yes, they can be built as beds. I set some up in the communal living area. The pig tail ones appear grey. When I first tested them the rope reed ones were green.

9th Felsite
Some migrants have arrived to the north. Included in them are 1 metalcrafter and her husband a peasant, 1 herbalist, another peasant, a Trapper, a lye maker, a fish dissector, another peasant, a siege engineer, a weaponsmith, a mechanic, yet another peasant, a gem cutter, a ranger, a wood cutter, a bone carver, another trapper, another weaponsmith and last but not least, another peasant.

Summed up that is:
3 metalworkers who will go smelt copper
2 new farmers
1 stonecrafter(Not trained but we need crafts)
3 To join the new military
8 haulers

18th Felsite
Rith Dalzatdumat seems to of gone into a strange mood today. She burst into the forge and claimed it. I wonder what she is going to do? I should be able to keep an eye on her as I am to dig out another malachite vein directly beneath the forges.

19th Felsite
Rith has gathered up some copper bars, some silver bars, some rough emeralds and has locked everyone else out. We can here her working diligently in there.

22nd Felsite
She has finished her work. Othosamkol Ikud Thebil, a copper trumpet, encrusted with copper emerald and silver. It is worth over 64,000. It is worth more then the rest of the fort. She also seems to of become a master at metalcrafting.

DAMN IT. I NEVER CATCH THESE THREADS AT THE START! Name one Parrot and give him  crossbowman and send him around hunting when he isn't practicing. Let him become a badass.
