BEST war animal?

Mundane animals, not giant ones.

Best i've seen so far is War Lions.

Cave Crocodiles or Jabberers for me. They have good value for their products made from them and are great for combat.

As far as I know you can't currently get dorfs to ride mounts. Only invaders ride animals.  I canBt wait until Toady adds rideable war animals *envisions militia cosisting of dwaves riding ferocious war pandas*

Actually, with the new animals I just saw on the front page, I will be making extensive use of war squid.

I don't care if I can't train them I want to have a lever to pull when I shout "Realease the kraken!"

Girlinhat: The biggest issue seems to be size.  A 1x1 room would allow for maximum child desecration.

I'm currently going for cave crocs and grizzly bears.
The grizzly bears are pretty good, mostly due to their size.
The cave crocs are just really great because of their number.

That and their tendency to death roll/shake violently.
No matter how much armor the enemy has, if that crock lands a hit it is never using that limb again.

They are supringly strong.. I thought i could take one, I did, but lost a leg in the process.

Gorillas are sick war animals imo.  They wrestle like champs - I have a swarm of them in my current fort, and it's pretty funny watching them rip goblins apart.

Any sort of bear, I saw one take out 3 goblin lashers (weirdly my phones predictive text tried to change that to lawyers, which is a weird mental image)
