Just finished sorting our stockpiles. It should make things a bit easier.

As things stand people can still get inside the walls if they sprint and jump into the water being used as an elevator. Does this matter for the moment?

well, were about to go down deep enought to connect the main cavern with the moat floor, so when thats done well be able to get rid of the water elevator. untill then we kind of need it to get anywere near the moat floor. Were breaking into cavern roofs all over the place -i keep cobblestoneing up minor openings-

The water was for me to get to the moat. Get rid of it if you like.

I've dug a sizable area out of our mines for a tree farm. Once complete, our underground will be entirely self sufficient in the unlikely event our bedmoat is overrun, our walls climbed, and our town pillaged.
Don't make the same mistake I made, which was to put torches on the walls. Also remember we want the ceiling so short that we can chop down the entire (preferably birch) tree without dirt scaffolding.

Oops, I kinda torch'd the wall.

Fortunately, the room is ENORMOUS, so trees should still be fully capable of growing.

Also, we need to do something about the caverns under our moat, especially since some of them lead right into our base. As is the case right now, we have exactly as much claimed land and moat as we need to be basically impossible to conquer (barring land claiming, which we can stop by being online often and not dying), but there are some caverns beyond our moat that clever raiders could dig in through to reach our valuables.

we dig down, and wile we do so we wall in the cavern entrances. thats the point of the dry moat, every entrance and exit you can see and affect. we still need to make a one way system from the gate to the otherside of the moat that we can close in times of emergancy.

If your worried about the caverns then help out with digging the moat. the sooner it is completed, the sooner all our problems concerning raiders getting in are solved when we wall all the entrances up etc. after that we just go out of the main fortress to mine. well have to work on a hidden mine system/outpost for our needs concerning that.

I'll get to work.

Also, my "tree farm" was unfortunately located directly under the moat and thus was exposed before complete. Probably for the better, since it goes straight to bedrock. I'll wall off the exposed parts to our fortress and then we'll already have one part done :D

In other moat related news, I've started to hit gold, which means we're on the bottom 32 layers of the map! Woohoo Safety and Defense! Woohoo 15ish blocks to go before we start hitting diamond!

I had an idea. Can pressure plate blocks (and the block they are on) be pulled away by a piston? So we have some fields. These fields. They had trenches of water, one thick, however long and they would have cane growing on each side. Below the 1 block deep water was a pressure plate and block. When someone moves through the fields and stands on this block it is pulled away from beneath them and it drops them into magma. The circuit pushes the block back over them and the trap resets.

Pressure plates get popped off by pistons, IIRC.

Wannazzaki: Moving a block with a pressure plate attached will just remove the plate.

On the topic of traps I've recently made one in creative that will kill anyone no matter their armour. I'll have to build one on the server but I worry it'll get fellow dwarves. I won't post the schematics but instant damage II potions are really over powered.

Fake edit: Took far too long to reply.

I found a mine and mineshaft, found about 9 diamonds, lots of redstone/gold/iron, and a spider spawner.

I'm just chilling out to get XP for enchants. Already level 9 :D
