I'll prolly have to check that vid later, work is going slow, but work is work.

One thing to note about the trailer though, is that it's basically marketed at a different audience than the people that follow the multiplayer vids. It's probably not impossible to lose no one while trying to capture as many aliens as you can. You do need to throw in stupidity, since not every play is going to be perfect, whether it's doing something that's impossible, or doing something such as sending your last guy to take down an enemy with a 70% failure chance instead of shooting the person and not taking your chances. One way or another, you're going to have to be stupid to get the point across. It's basically simplifying an issue so you can communicate better.

And as a side note, it's pretty amazing that you can get a guy to work on a game for four years and still want to play it. XCOM should lend itself to replayability, but I'll have to see if and when the modding tools come out to change things up a bit if I can, since I do wanna see if it's possible to get randomised maps back, to an extent.

For me the problem isn't the stupidity, it is the transparency of the stupidity.

It is the dumb act they put on that is annoying.

Reminds me of an episode of "Videogames are awsome" (before they revamped their show because it was dumb) where they play the original Mario and keep losing until they discover that they can jump. Funny at first but it wears stupid very quickly.

Record yourself playing Original XCom/Jagged Alliance.

I will point out every "stupid" thing you do.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

There is nothing wrong with them doing stupid things.

It is their stupid act that is annoying.

Also I don't own either of those... nor do I have recording software.

Wait.

You apparently have never played the original X-com yet you've been complaining about the new one.

I don't own AoE2, does that mean I've never played it?

That's not the point..? The point is that Neonivek is complaining about X-com games, when he hasn't even played them which makes pretty much no sense what so ever.

Likely never really played is the point. The original games are the sort you need to really invest some serious time in to say you really have given them a proper play. The sort of thing you can't get out of a weekend at a friends house.

Where did I say I played it for only a weekend?

I don't own it as of right now.

Then have you played the game at all, and if yes, for how long?

For about a year (2 actually). I wasn't very good at the game but mostly because the controls confused me.

Though I had one winning run. The SECOND I took a large ship I was unstoppable.

Basically, being stupid for the sake of being stupid isn't appreciated. No, you don't have to have played the original X-COM to appreciate that. If you called me out on stupid moves I made in the game, fair enough, but at least I will have made those moves through sheer accident, not "lets do this to show off this mechanic" in a way that defeats the point because nobody is gonna do half the shit that the player "chose" to do. Especially not the stuff in the interactive demo. When I say ram the squad up there, I would at least take cover while doing it, christ.
