Ability to keep a Fortress running when abandoning it
« on: December 14, 2011, 11:37:54 am »

I would like to see a Fortress running even if I leave it. Wouldn't it be awesome to see your old fortress in the same glory while being an adventurer. Or you could kill that lousy goblin tower that keeps on attacking you, then go back to the fort to have an easier time...

Congratulations! You have participated in a great tradition of the Bay 12 forums! Just like everyone else here, you have suggested that fortresses can continue running independently.

We are looking forward to your future of productive posts now that that's out of your system.

This is sort of unrelated, but is there any way to keep fortresses running after you abandon them? Like so maybe I can visit in adventure mode and get quests to kill some kobold thief or rescue a kidnapped dwarf?

OK, I have to reload the save.
There was a bit of a problem regarding flashfreezing, a ballistae, and a barrel of dwarven ale. Gonna fix it up.

I really think there should be a sticky thread listing the top 10 most suggested ideas ever.
Maybe from toady himself, as a "Yes, I know, I'm either working on it or it's never going to happen."

And PTTG, you know there's still "Multiplayer fortresses", "64-bit compile", "Magic", and "Slavery" to get out of his system before any new ideas can be put forth.

And functional fortress mode sewers.

And boats, the enemies of tiles.

I like the idea, Detoxicated.  It would be really fun to also be able to play on the invaders side, as a Demon or Night Creature.  With the goal, to slay all the nobles, you set while playing in Fortress mode, building it up.  Although before that is done, I'd imagine, it would be necessary to give the invaders a way to bash down walls and tunnel.

Sincerely,
Knutor

Aren't sewers going into this release?

Not for Fort Mode. It seems unlikely that waste mgm will make it into Fort Mode.

I remember in DF Talk #17 Toady mentioning how originally DF was going to be set up as Fort Mode -> Dug too deep... -> Adventurer exploring the fortress with the sole purpose of recovering as much lewt as possible.

Interesting idea, though I like the current flexibility better.

What would be DF sex anyway? Two 'lover' dorfs occupy the same bed with the job 'Fornication'?

"Intimatacy"

dang it, now I'm imagining two dwarves deep kissing, their beards entangled, as spores pass from one to the other...
