Have you tried reinstalling the Linux DF? Perhaps reinstall libSDL?

EDIT: I may not be able to play at all. DF is throwing this at me in console: ./libs/Dwarf_Fortress: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL-1.2.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64.

Looks like you need new elves.

Deletion is too painless. Load all the elves onto a flash drive, and suspend it in magma. Lacking magma, a microwave will suffice.

Could it be caused by a graphics pack, or lack of one?  I know the last few guys have all used one, and I use Ironhand with the original fortress myself.

That issue has nothing to do with DF, I believe. ELF stands for Executable and Linkable Format, a type of file that's often used for Linux drivers. For whatever reason, the shared library for SDL is not loading properly.

So the elves ARE to blame then.  This is probably because I 'let' all those elf caravans leave Swordthunders via Hell... or had them go insane  (Either that, or they would've ran outside into goblin sieges) on the Trade Depot so Doren and Shen had to calm them down with blows to the head.  Repeated, fatal blows with sharp weapons.

Did you try the suggestions I gave earlier? If they didn't work, try installing a new graphics driver.
