Now, I will not argue that this makes it less likely I am scum. That would be stupid.

Before someone jumps all over this screaming INCONSISTENCY, I would like to clarify that the WIFOM (to which Ottofar referred) alone makes it less likely I am scum, whereas the situation as a whole does not.

Or he could not defend me at all. You can argue that WIFOM would make a defence safer, but you cannot seriously argue that it would make it safer than just not defending.

It's a preemptive defense, and I have to agree it's kinda scummy to worry about being called on something enough to point it out and explain it away before anyone calls attention to it.  Are you so nervous about being attacked that you have to preemptively sore up any holes you see?
