I cant decide if this is truly dwarven or possibly elvish
« on: September 25, 2011, 04:06:09 am »

I carved out my colossal tank for my new reservoir (it's seven z-levels high!) and emptied it by cutting off the top floor and letting to clear down to the bottom (THAT took my FPS from 60 to 3 with all the smoke).  Anyways, when i go to inspect the bottom of the chamber, i see this -

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The only way i can think this happened is it was a bug rising from the top floor being clay loam and sand while the lower ones were stone.

Pave the base of the pit with microcline or gold and make it a magma reservoir, then it will be dwarven. :)

Is hat actual grass, or is it fungus?

The two can be indistinguishable to some texture packs, and both will grow on clay and etc.  If it's fungus, it's definitely dwarven, and will produce (once you get into the first cavern) dwarven fungus-based wood.

Take a look at the description on the right side of the screenshot - it's grass alright.

Magma doesn't pressurize well.  This thing is SEVEN LEVELS HIGH with the bottom level leading out via floodgates and a wide tunnel to the valley outside the main gate.  The released flood will be BIBLICAL.  If it doesn't flatten my FPS into crashing the game.

Ah, sorry.  The screenshot's right side wasn't shown on my screen due to its sheer size :D

grass isn't supposed to show up as "grass" but as one of the many species of grass that you have in the raws

I'm flooring it over as I type.  Don't want trees cluttering it up.  It's going to take a LONG time though.  And as for Magma, I'll be setting up a pumpstack and magma reservoir after this one's complete.  My last fort never had goblin visitors, so i never got the opportunity to kill them (only got the odd elf ambush).  I'm looking forward to this quite a bit - they killed a lot of my sock-seeking dwarves before i locked the doors a few times.

Nope.  Vanilla Dwarf Fort with the Ironhand 0.57 visual pack.

It's strange because my friend once had an entire natural cavern covered in "grass" that later was overgrown by the regular fungus....

Dwarven? How could that possibly be dwarven? The Elves, that's who's responsible for this! It's all part of the great Elvish conspiracy! Black wagons! Radio waves! Assassinations! They have ears everywhere... Spies! Bugs! Snoops! Don't trust that grass, it's an evil Elvish plant, I tell you! A PLANT!

It's awesome and that's all that should matter. Hell, you could even turn it into a tree farm for the production of beds and wooden bolts to annoy elves with. :P

That, and other useful wooden products.

If you kill an elf with a wooden bolt fired from a wooden crossbow through a wooden fortification (wood blocks -> fortify), does that make their ghost twice as angry, or three times?

I haven't gotten any surface plants growing inside, just the usual cave vegetation.  I'd say the grass is a one-off bug from the colossal seven-layer impact of different floor types (everything from clay, to sand, to talc) and it's now generating vegetation normally.
