By the way, a segment of Barack Obama's original "American Jobs Act" or whatever it was called was just filibustered by Senate Republicans despite having the votes to pass in the Senate.

Fixed.

Just read they cleared out Melbourne. Local capitalists in Amsterdam are also saying they should clear the square soon.

I was walking through the Melbourne city centre yesterday. The dirt patch where they were camping (melbourne doesn't have any real parks in the CBD) was completely fenced off with cops every 5m ringing the spot. For a while, they were bunched up on a street intersection a little further on, but that only lasted a few hours before it was shunted away.

That's even worse than I thought.

There will be blood if that doesn't change.  That's not anger, threat, or promise on my part... pure observation.  People have less and less to lose in the course of getting violent as this continues.

'The One Percent' is the most popular documentary on Netflix at this moment.

That's pretty funny.

Quote from: wiki
The film's title refers to the top one percent of Americans in terms of wealth, who controlled 42.2 percent of total financial wealth in 2004
Even worse now!

And I'm off to protest the banks of this small town, armed with an umbrella and a bajillion signs to hand out to the other protestors who didn't bring any!

Chris Hedges on OWS

This guy has been a war correspondent for 20 years and been on the front lines of many revolutions... and he's gushing all over this one.  He starts breaking down towards the end, when he starts talking about how he recognizes this movement as fighting for his children.

Also, the website is blocked for me (occupymarines.org) but apparently there is a group of marines attempting to formally organize military solidarity and organizational support for the movement.

Just read they cleared out Melbourne. Local capitalists in Amsterdam are also saying they should clear the square soon.

Weird, I thought we had a right to protest?
Just remembered reading that in the newspapers. To quote the local politican saying it (liberal party):
Quote
Everyone has the right to demonstrate. But occupying a central square in the city for a week with an anti-globalization mini-campsite without a license, that's another story.
Nobody is planning to forcefully remove them though (or using cops in any way), and I don't actually know if the opinion of this politician is shared by the majority of the cities politicians.

The anti-globalization mini campsite made me lol though.

Really?... I'm seeing mentions of mounted police trampling and mass arrests in Melbourne, but most of them are video links, so I can't verify.

Son to be ex-Marines once the Department of Defence find out, I expect. I don't know if they're incredibly brave or incredibly foolhardy putting their jobs, pensions and VA benefits on the line like that.
