Don't know about Conway's Game of Life, thanks, gonna check it out!
[trollface]

well this thing was made in the 70s and I'm 16 years old  :-\
The interesting thing about Conway's Game of Life are the underlying rules and the interesting patterns that develop. It is not something you'd be interested in if you like graphics or aren't interested in esoterica.

I'm sure that's very interesting and all, but I don't think I'd enjoy it  ;D

It falls into that category of games with poor graphics but amazing depth, like Dwarf Fortress and Aurora.

Children of the Nile is one of my favorite open builder games but you said you've played it. I enjoyed Guild 2 and Guild 1400. Some people like the X series, (X3, X2, etc) but I don't really feel they're all that good.

Tropico is a fantastic open builder game, as is Startopia. Startopia is probably my favorite all-time game, though it's rather old so finding a copy can be problematic.

The Majesty and Dungeon Keeper games are great as well.

I love tropico too, played the last one but I'm already sick of it   :(
I just play too many games and am getting bored by them faster and faster as time goes... very frustrating
I heard about Startopia already tho and I thought it sounded really awesome. Thanks I'm going to finally try it!

If you have other suggestions, don't hesitate to contribute for I will probably need a new one too soon!

Thanks guys!

I can recommend Caraveneer.

It's a trading game. You can follow a main quest or just travel from town to town, buying and selling goods.
You can hire mercenarys, buy carts and animals and later jeeps and so on.
Animals need fodder, your men need water and food, your cars need gas (iirc).
There are 3 factions (thieves, the corrupt government and a militia, founded by some citizens).
Groups of each of them and neutral caravans are traveling around, fighting with each other and you can attack who you want.

If you don't finish the main quest you can play as long as you want i think.

It's a browser game, but there is also a downloadable client

You might enjoy fallout 3 if you haven't played it already.  Not quite a sandbox game but its pretty open-ended in how you play it.

Terraria. It's pretty much 2D Minecraft with more adventure elements, but it still has the same freedoms when it comes to building and terraforming.

Maybe it's parasitic. It never loses its flavor because you eventually die from having your nutrients stolen by it.

Fallout 3 with real time settler mod was fairly good.

Just for examples, here are some games I loved :

-The Guild

You mean the first game in all it's unbelievable epicness?
Or the crappy sequel that was dumbed down so much, even the stone statues on Eastern Islands could beat it in no time?

The sequel wasn't that bad, unless you played Venice which was terrible. The dev team had a bad situation with the company dumping them midway through development and forcing the game out. The newest iteration is actually quite good (The Guild II Renaissance) as it applies all of the unofficial changes the dev team had made for the community after being dropped by their company and fixes a lot of the bugs. Also they made it stand-alone so you don't need to buy any of the other expansions to play and it has all features enabled.

Did you know that if you write 3.14 on a piece of paper and hold it in a mirror, it will say pie? And if you divide 42 by 3.14... you get 13.37!

No matter how good Guild 2 may have been, it paled when compared to Europa 1400 (the first Guild) thus my point remains.
