Have you and the Elf look out the window, smash his face into the window till it breaks, then push him out.

String the elf along.  Find out how much funding he is willing to offer up front.  Additionally, find out how large their demand is.  Inform the elf that you couldn't even begin production on an item like this at this time.  If he wants you to start working on it, he'll need to place an order for weapons grade steel.  Tell him that in the time you produce the steel, you can start gearing the factory towards weapons production again.  However if he doesn't place an order for steel now you will have to start from scratch on any finished weapons or other goods he wants in the future.

Afterwards, report all of this information to the King and CEO and express your desire to continue to cultivate the elf for information.  Also, compliment the accountant on being the only one in the gods damned factory who knows how to produce anything.

This. A thousand times this.

Refuse him. Tell him you're not capable of even entertaining the idea at the moment, but he could come back in a week when we're more together.

You've only been at this factory for a few hours now, but you suspect this is the last forge of the real, heavy duty wartime steels. So you decide to play a game with the elf. The elves can't forge worth a damn, you're against the wall already as is, so it is time to profit.

"You are well aware, we just now are firing up the furnaces for a run of the kind of steel you require. I can't sell you the barrels now, but I can sell you the steel, and then later these slabs can be forged into your barrels. How many are you talking about?"

The elf fidgets slightly, and pulls out a dainty briefcase ("Purse"). He takes a few pieces of paper from it, shuffles them back and forth, and says
"We need twenty six."

You were around for wartime production... this goes far beyond that. The largest battleship on the planet has no more than nine of these, and the last battleship was made 30 years ago. What are the elves planning for?

You take out a fine pen from your desk, and a piece of paper from your ledger to do some quick calculations. You hope you remember this correctly.
"You do realize that is going to be roughly a hundred tons of the highest grade steel... It's going to take a while just to get the raw materials together!"

"I understand. Can you do it?"

You take a quick peek at the balance sheet, and visibly frown. Again, you a few quick calculations and it's obvious, you do not have enough money in the bank to even think about this big of a job.
"It's going to take a hundred thousand Urist to get the raw materials from the mines, and at least a week. Plus, adamantium is pretty damn scare these days. We're going to need a ton of that. You have it? "

Adamantium was pretty much all lost during the great wars. Much of it was strewn about the planet, a small bit here, a small bit there. Nobody had much of it anymore, and there might be only a few tons left in bar form. Even if you contact the Dwarven Council, between a dozen clans and nation-states it may be impossible to get a ton of admantium. And it would definitely cost over a hundred thousand.

"Suppose I can get it. How much per barrel?" The elf has started to do his own calculations, and has started to go through an elkbird leather binder , searching for some bits of data.

"$25000 each, payable as we get done with them. Now, if you'll excuse me, I will have my secretary type you something up formal to take back to the treehouse. If you find the adamantium, then come get me. "

The elf finds a satisfying figure in his binder and taps a page with his finger and gets an excited smile. "We have the adamantium... "

"Excuse me a minute. I need to get this agreement typed up."

You step in the elevator and press G for the ground floor. This is an obscene amount of money the elves are offering. Just telling the Dwarven Council that there's a ton of adamantium somewhere would likely start a war. But... if you got it in house.. you may be able to sell it to the Council for easily a couple hundred thousand.

The door of the elevators opens. You need to finalize the deal, or reject the deal and report to the Council.

Consider ramifications of claiming to do the job, then backstabbing the elves at the last minute.

Instead of Dealing with elves, deal with the Dwarven Council. As you said even a ton of Adamantium would trigger a war. We are a wartime factory...sooooo....tell the Dwarven Council about it in exchange for a payment for your help...and then heat the Smelters up a war is coming :D

EDIT: try to get subsidation by the Council for your invaluable help to find Adamantium...

An intredasting suggestion if ever there was one. Lacks the element of backstabbing the elves though.

You've made your decision.

"I will take the contract, but the adamantium has to be here within a week's time for annealing. We will start deliveries in 6 weeks. I will have the secretary type up the agreement, and you need to be prepared to write a hundred thousand urist check at time of signing. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to make a phone call to order some materials.

You agree to meet again at 7:00 PM for contract signing.  The elf leaves your office, and approximately ten minutes later you call the secretary to confirm the elf businessman has left. After you are sure you are in the clear, you call the Dwarven council switchboard and get directed to Bomrek Fitzcactus, a newer council member.

"I have a ton of adamantium coming in to my facility in a week. Are you interested in it?"

"Absolutely. How much?"

"This is going to be complicated. You see, our company is bankrupt. We need support. And, we'll, we're in the business of war..."
