Human Wave is pretty fun against 4-hat armies. They lose about 3/5ths of the time, but they're still a risk to win with a lucky rocket or the extra initiative the reinforcement wave gets. Don't know how it shakes out now that they're an 8-man squad yet, though.

I really should have waited until another guy with an Infernal Tube showed up in the recruit list, or a hydro shell sniper at least, but I don't think I could have held out for another week.  ???

AUGH SWEET HOLY ARMOK trooper number 9 costs 720!  The hurting! :o

Yes, Human Wave is at 8 recruits.

Also, the reason I vow revenge against A-list armies that beat up on Human Wave? :D This crap. Like, every single infiltrate mission they get is unbeatable. The last two were against 31st Infantry. Human Wave is actually sort of okay against them and got close a couple of times. Pomm's on-point rocket launcher dude consistently turns them into hamburger.

In other fights, today's episode of Atomizer vs. Farce went down to the very last hit point.

So, who wants to trade recruits? Atomizer and Human Wave are hiring!

Human Waaaaaaave now has a MaximumWall.
I'd gladly take a trade.

Blitzcraig wins VS Frost Guard.  I'm so proud!
He's a real (witch) doctor, now!  He's got crazy hair and is ultrablack and everything, it's awesome.  Also the other guy has awesome names.
My rat sense is tingling.  Two guys handily shoot up eleven rats.  They're pretty average-built, too - no Comms or miniguns or anything.  Besides the poison scattergun and toxifrag, anyway.
Pistols and a frag nade VS Five rats.
Out-rocketing lol, rockets.  Maybe cheating with a biker and a sniper too.

FUCK YES I got a choppa on Team Stink, one of Deathsquid's recruits.  Can rats punch that thing, does anyone know?  Do I need to get some scouts for it.  (EDIT:  Looks like I clicked through too quick.  They can't, and no I don't!  :D  Sadly, he runs away once he's out of ammo.  Lame.)

...Also this new recruit for Deathsquid has pushed Mooson out of the initial roster into a solo wave, where his Vendetta can't proc and where the enemies unbunch before he can blow them up.  I don't think I'm okay with this.

Ok, more question time!

1: Just how important is the starting two picks on each soldier?

2: Are you screwed if you're two level up choices for the soldier is no good?  If you're building a sniper and you level up and only see shotguns, then level up again and only see knife and pistol, is the soldier essentially ruined?  Is there any way to change which options you get on level up or are you doomed to making a new army?  Is there a way to dismiss a soldier maybe?

3: Favorite weapon, what exactly is this?  Is it the weapon they always try to keep out or is it simply the weapon you start the combat with?

4: What kinds of weapons tend to be best?  Just as an example, I had the option of having my starting soldier for one of my armies have a Sparrowhawk while another had a MOS-TEK.  Average damage on MOS-TEK looked higher but the accuracy and crit on the Sparrowhawk is massive.  Of course you only get one bullet at a time on Sparrow.  Would the weapon with the best accuracy generally be the better choice?  Doesn't matter how much damage you can do if you miss after all.

5: Proper troop mixes.  My first army was ALL snipers.  They did not last long obviously.  I may be able to find the answer to this while I'm browsing around, but is there a general rule of thumb for balancing an army?  I'm noticing having a sniper for your first soldier is somewhat hit or miss, you either one-shot the enemy or they get close enough to kill you.

I'm sure I have other questions but these are the ones that are nagging at me right now.  If you happen to want to throw any advice at me beyond what I've asked it's certainly welcome.  I don't expect to become great at the game but having at least a workable army would be nice.  This would be my...4th restart I or so I think, I would like it to be the last.

Thank you in advance.

1: You can get some pretty nice combos right off the bat, but most things seem to have their weaknesses. Popular soldiers like dedicated hydroshock/on-point snipers, rocket guys, and shotgun motorcyclists get screwed up by spies. Saboteurs make anything unreliable. Comms officers can make soldiers mess up other armies with their bare hands.

2: Any soldier can benefit from having backup weapons, esp. vs. rats, so I don't think it's that big a deal. The whole "pick two" mechanism is designed to keep people from optimizing which would ultimately make this silly game a bit less fun. I don't really sweat it. Atomizer has one guy who's currently a scrub (I'm hoping he gets a vehicle which will Change Everything)

3: The one they start with. They use it until it's out of ammo, or they drop it. Sometimes if they drop a weapon they pick it up again.

4: Doesn't the original post have weapon evaluations? Most of the advanced weapons are clearly better than the basic ones. All the advanced sniper rifles are good to have, and all the pistols are a lot better than the basic one. With shotguns the pump action shotgun is the best one by a mile. With bazookas, Infernal Tube is good although the others have their advantages. The least difference seems to be assault rifles and miniguns.

5: I don't know, different armies have their strengths... but having at least one guy with a rocket launcher seems to be a big help.

1. You get more later, but the initial weapon(s) and skill is always good to consider.

2. If your sniper gets a pistol, the favorite weapon will always be his preffered weapon, and if he runs out of ammo he'll charge in with a pistol.

3. See #2

4. Look at the first post, it has a list of weapons.

5. Try to have it mixed up. My army has two shotgun guys, two minigunners (backup shotguns), a rocket/sniper guy, and an assault rifle guy and they beat pretty much everyone here.

Edit: MEGACANNON HAS A TANK!!! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Edit2: Or nothing at all. 31st Infantry>Everything else.

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Thanks for the answers.  I'm busy digging through as many recruit pages as I can find trying to find a Smart soldier to start with, so far I've found pistol/smart, assault rifle/smart, and shotgun/smart.  Any opinion on which weapon I should look for on my first soldier?  I've got a cold so I have all the time in the world to look today to find an idea weapon for the first soldier ^^; assuming it even matters that much.

Yeah, I'd go with assault rifle/smart... assault rifles are always good to have in a pinch and they don't demand that your soldier be specialized in one way or another starting out. Also easy to win solo fights, you beat anything but miniguns and rocket launchers usually. And then if he gets a good sniper rifle or bazooka or whatever you can have him go that way and the assault rifle will still be a good backup.

The risk with the basic pistol is that you'll be stuck with it for a long time and it's not a good weapon (other skills can help).

I have a question, do hydroshock and explosive shells apply at the same time?

Different "ammo types" mix, yes. You could have Hydroshock + Toxic + Explosive for poisoning shots with a 4x killshot chance and a chance of double damage, for example.

I've said it before but for those who don't know: Frag shrapnel counts as a bullet. Combine it with Toxic/Hydroshock shells for poison or killshots (Explosive doesn't work).

Screw intelligence. Go with a rocket launcher.
