we're only one big cell? maybe divide again, being, say, eight cells inside the shell. I think its safer.
But i'll understand you to disagree.

Also, head to fungals, eat, and improve mitochondria. Or cytoplasm.

Why in such a hurry? Once we're multicellular presumably improving on the cellular level will be harder, so lets get really badass before we lock ourselves into something we may later regret.

On this point I entirely agree, and that is indeed a rarity

okay, lets get some upgrades first.
Increasing rentability of mitochondria, nutrient harvester, and cytoplasm.
We'll need more silicon sooner or later, so i do not want to see anymore "Basic" around there!

Hmm... well we have the rough plan, following on with what your saying how about:

-> Complex:
Mitrochondria - Will make us much more efficient
Cytoplasm - Huge range of benefits: efficiency, size, glucose storage, ect.

-> Improved:
Nutrient Harvester - Try to collect a greater range of materials for more complex creations
Ribosomes - Having more materials and creating more complex structures will require the ribosomes to make all these funky proteins we're going to want.

Turn 18

Food would be good right now. Perhaps the fungal cells from earlier. You ponderously roll around until the ice with the uneven top comes into view, a dark silhouette against the light coming from above. You wonder about what may be up there, but you have no way of knowing anything about the surface - or even if there is a surface. You decide that you will search the upper areas after this. As you travel to the fungal colony below, the silicon plates are reinforced with some extra silicon. Ain't nothin' getting through that. (( :D )) You also install the mineral extractors directly next to the plates to provide constant repair should they be broken. Their nearness to the cell's membrane in conjunction with a inflow from the contractile vacuoles provides constant influx of minerals.

((Ooh, didn't see the last six posts while I had this turn up. I'll do those next turn, just getting this out there first.))

Sorry for the double post, but I want to tell you that improving on the cellular level will not be all that harder.

Also: the silicon plates have are spikes. :D

how sweet, an image.
I think we should be extra careful of what's above us.
Predators...
Brrr.

improving by priority:
1)mitochondria
2) cytoplasm
3) nutrient harvester

4) ribosomes
5) data processing organelle
6) nucleus

7) photoreceptor
8) enzyme injector

Yea, and making those "manipulator arm" like pseudopods I described earlier is somewhere between 2 and 3 there.

Just an idea, when we do these pseudopods which seems a good idea I think we should make them individual cells for two reasons:

>Resilience, if one becomes damaged it'll be a lot easier to replace/repair if it's a separate cell
>Planning, if we eventually decide to become a complete multicellular creature it'll be easier if we don't have complex parts which can't just be dissolved in a vacuole.

Develop an ink and pheromone mixture that will blind most senses and mark anything that travels through it.

Only if it wont damage the rate of comunication with the proccessor. Maybe they could be made "criped" cells withote all neccecery parts for a full cell, sort of like red blood cells?

You could always run the processor tubes in-between the cells in their extracellular matrix. It won't speed things up and it will reduce clutter in the cells.

But then you risk a processor tube being ripped out with the cell...
