Dragon curse
« on: August 08, 2011, 09:53:08 am »

well this was fun:
I got a dragon enemy, ok, fire breather sure, you you and you, go lop its head off.

5 minutes later, they all drop dead. fair enought.
reasign new guys.
they all bleed out.

Now i have no idea how this is happening mark. But im theorising that the flame of the dragon has super heated 2 sets of armour reserved for my first axe squad.
so any dwarf assigned to these positions stands in the barracks wearing said armour, melts and bleeds over all the other dwarves present.

so far, the hammer squads pissy at their stuff being coverd in dwarven blood, and that the guys all choose the middle of the barracks to melt.

anyone else sufferd massive after effects from a beasty that wasent a forgotten and with syndrome?

Hold on I just need to make sure I know what the situation. So your three soldiers die to dragonfire....and then you have someone else wear their equipment and they die shortly after? Or did that dragon just kill everything?

But as for me I still remember that one incident with the flying fire blob titan that set the countryside on fire. So many dead wildlife, and the gras never truly did grow back since it was mostly a mauntainside embark.

"Alright, recruits. Here's your new armor sets. Take good care of them and be proud, cause' the previous owners were dragonslayers ."

"...Sir, is it normal for it to be red-hot and on fire? And why does it smell like burned dwarf?"

"SHUT UP AND WEAR IT"

"Oh okay."

I played that scenario in my head and ended up giggling like a girl in my office.

"Don't question a superior officer, soldier!  This is all part of my plan!  If a dwarf is on fire, then any goblin who gets too close will also catch fire and die.  My soldiers will be goblin-proof!"

"<muttering> maybe try making them fireproof first..."

"WHAT WAS THAT, SOLDIER?!"

"Nothing, sir.  *sigh* I'll go get some more booze and a torch..."

they were masterwork steel armour sets ^^ -legendary armourer-
and had no indication of fire or melting at all.

they put them on, report to the barracks, then promplty melt all over the dwarfs in the barracks and spray blood everywere.

ive lost 4 dwarfs so far. x) worst thing is, if i didnt forbid them, those with lower quality armour would have put them on, and since this was some of the best armour in my arsonal, i hate to imagine what it would have done to the millatery, regemental suicide anyone?

dosent seem to affect dwarfs who are holding them with gloves though, so theyve got shimmyed to the armour stockpiles now. -wich is were i forbidden'd them all from, in a wooden bin-

i can only see if dumping them in water will remedy this. but i doubt it.

They can be raised to absurd temperatures without being on fire.

Have you been doing any modding? Maybe dragonfire is hotter than normal in your world.

how fitting. needs more beard to make it more dwarfy. of course, when burns get properly implemented so they cauterise wounds rather than melting. then, give your dwarfs an inner set of flameproof arour and an outer set of flammable artifact clothing and set them on fire and we can actually do this.

Think I can report something similar. Once, a fire imp killed my militia commander. His steel equipment was taken by the dwarf who was next in line. The new captain bled to death in a minute. The deaths were from a burnt left hand.

I poked around and found... The steel gauntlet killed him. Somehow. I checked and saw it had a coating of fire imp goo. I assumed that the goo (had read that contaminants apparently will be heated up by nearby magma) was heated up by the nearby magma (imp showed up through a hole in the magma forges). So when the fire imp clawed my militia commander to death, ran up the stairwell and was killed, the next dwarf goes to the magma level and picks up the steel equipment including the fire imp goo gauntlet (right next to some magma). He carried it upstairs and died. The next dwarf who picked it up was fine, likely because the previous new captain had taken it upstairs and away from the magma.

Anyway, I believe that, yes, there is something wrong with temp and gear (with contaminants on it). May need some testing.
