I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.

I set a large area to be mind for my stockpiles, and 3 miners have died already from suffocation.

The first one I noticed had "rotten lung" as the diagnostition marked in his history.

Coal? What is killing my men?

I am using masterworks but can't find info on there ither. Sound like no one like explaining what they are changing or how to do thing in mods (is this normal for DF? "Hey here is a mod, you figure out what it does!")

EDIT: No I don't have the mod option for warpstones on.
Is there a IRC chat or something for DFFers? Would LOVE live chat with other players.
I am just confused....and a bit annoyed. How can you make a mod that doesn't tell you how to do half the things that you added?

I could also just be stupid and blind, but i am sure I clicked ALL spoiler tags in that mod...

Anywhoo, if i wanna bitch about that mod I will on their thread.

Is there anything in V DF that could kill miners as they mine? If so how do I stop it...I don't have that many miners.

Did a scary thing breathe on at least one of them?  That's usually the case.  Any unusual creatures?

It's normal in DF to happen, and especially Fun.

If you want a wiki page, here it is (WARNING: SPOILERS)

Poison, syndromes caused by monsters, sounds much more likely.

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

"An enormous scaly fly, It has for long spiral horns and it is ravening. It's jade scales are round and overlapping. Beware it's webs!"

That was the last thing the military attack which went down with out even hitting ONE of them...was actually kinda disappointed in the "non epicness" of that battle.

But that was the military, this was a miner, and the military seems fine, one guy has some issues from a previous battle, but that just left him with no left leg, and a "Enormous" scar. He is also the commander...hehe...to me he is the hard ass of the fort, especially after reading his personality. Also the military is actually isolated away from the rest of society for something JUST like this..

Anywhoo...yeah that was the only forgotten beast attack we had...TBH, things are quiet, too quiet.

I'll check more health logs, but nothing seemed to come up and I have at least 1 5 skilled diag, and one legend one.

Maybe the miner touched one of its webs?

Hmm it might have been it, but the fly thing seemed to come out of the well (least that is when I noticed it) if that is possible (it is flying after all..or so one would assume)

Poisoned water supply, most likely.

I had this happen when I tried Masterwork too.  Even with the warpstone, fossils, and treasures off (turned off the stuff I thought would make traps.)  All my miners ended up trailing blood all over the place and eventually dying

Should prob post about it in the mod thread

I think masterwork might have added black lung. Have you been mining coal?

I had an above ground garden built in the grounds of my castle and two young dwarves spent time socialising there over the summer and at the end of the summer they were in love. Remember those long summers of your childhood? That first kiss in the gardens while crossbows dwarves shoot goblins above your head? The rain of dead birds as the hunters get to work? Truly Spearhills is a paradise.

they wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the raving confessions of a mass murdering cannibal from a recipe to bake a pie.
Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Black lung is caused by small fake 'coal' clusters inside the regular coal clusters. These 'fake' coal stones turn to gas when mined and rot your miners lungs. Any coal you have lying around is safe.

Assuming there is no 'cure' or a way to safely mine coal? I still need fuel as of right now, I need a military to go deeper as there is a cavern under my 5th floor.

Until I feel there training is decent enough, I can not hunt for magma.

EDIT: + steel, tho my first squad is full steel already.

Use your skilled miners to locate coal veins but not mine them.

When your next migrant wave comes, enable mining on a migrant or two and disable it for your main miners and have them mine the veins out.

Have them dig out a large amount of junk rock or soil first, so that your unskilled miners gain some skill so you don't loose as much coal.

Alternatively, keep your skilled miners away from the coal and where you need other mining done with burrows.   Likewise, keep your unskilled miners away from anything that isn't coal with burrows.

This involves a lot of micromanaging, but it works.

I am using masterworks but can't find info on there ither.

in Masterwork v1.2 you can turn it off at world generation by clicking off the "Harder Mining" button on the GUI.  You might want to take a moment to read the tooltips on all the buttons, in fact.  I don't care for the coal dust or warpstone either.  I also prefer to turn off Harder Smelting.

"Renamed warpstone button to harder mining. Added coaldust and linked the button it. Coalmining might cause black lung now. The button adds/removes these 5 materials: stable/unstable warpstone, lignite/bituminous/anthracite dust. "
