On the top ten places I wish to go before I die, Space is hands down Number. One.

MSH: Go directly to spess, do not pass Europe, do not collect 200,000,000,000$.

The value of venus is in the extremely rich atmosphere, which would be a great boon to a subterranean (subvenusian?) colony.

In theory, at about 1500 feet off the ground, Venus has the exact same atmospheric pressure as Earth does, just different components.

In fact in seriousness and sound engineering point, it makes more sense to build "floating colonies" on Venus. Since it's dense atmosphere is good for floating platforms. And it's easy to extract the rich atmosphere beneath. And no expensive pressure supporting structure needed.

Looking cool as hell is also an important factor.

Man, if these space discussions are any indication, the future's gonna be awesome.

Damn this mortal shell for probably not letting me live long enough to see it.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I am sure we will live long enough to see many wonderful things.

Until the eyes of said puny mortal shell begin to go.
Then get some cybernetic eyes. We already have cybernetic hearts, at this very moment, implanted in people who would otherwise be dead. The cybernetic eyes can't be that far away.

The way eyes operate and interface with the brain is not mechanical like the pumping of the heart. Emulating sensory perception and delicate motor functions will not be easy, even by near-future standards--or so I would think.

We actually do have functional mechanical eyes.

From what I've overheard about those, they're good for seeing outlines of shapes but not much else.

The way the heart operates and interfaces with the circulatory system is not something we can make into a small machine. Emulating rhythmic pumping and delicate blood pressurization functions will not be easy, even by near-future standards--OH WAIT.

Science marches on, and by now it's doing so at a running pace.

"Bionic Eye" you can google this. Already happened

Or perhaps Singularity will happen quicker before we colonizing the space? Singularity is quite an amusing concept. Perhaps 1 trillion virtual human beings will be far plausible than "living" human beings.

Come to think of it. That even partial cybernetic human beings, can greatly reduce the need of food and even living space. Kind of a grim look of the future though, "get modified or die in hunger"

Well, I personally wouldn't mind, say, a cybernetic hand. Especially if it helps me type faster :P

I'm hoping this technology goes somewhere myself. I'm kinda wary of relying on cybernetics.

I think our best bet is the oceans myself, both the surface and the deep. Hopefully without destroying the ocean's ecosystem. We will probably need to limit the amount of children people can have though. Assuming of course that no plagues, wars, or other disasters keep human population in check.
