Meanwhile, Rick Perry is kicking off his campaign tour with a bang by accusing the Chairman of the Federal Reserve of pre-emptive treason.

And making veiled threats of violence:

Standing next to a "Perry President" sign, the governor replied, "If this guy prints more money between now and the election, I don't know what y'all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas."

I have to know how this level of crazy manages to make its way into a human mind.

It's not inconsistent. Both premises spring from the core concept of state sovereignty taken to the utmost extreme.

If elected, I picture Perry declaring that the United States secedes from itself. And there would be thousands cheering and firing their guns in the air.
