You do realize you are actually costing them money with the 1 cent purchases? They have to pay for you downloading them, you know?
lolwat.

I kinda assumed people pay for using the net like me. My bad.
No that is right.  They generally need to pay a hosting site for the bandwidth.  1 cent purchases does seem a little jerkish...

It's all irrelevant anyway, since 99% of people will register and download off Steam instead.

They also set up a bittorrent download of the bundles, to help mitigate that problem.

AND they host the bandwidth themselves.

Sure, but even then they have a fixed bandwidth plan. Like oh, I dunno, they have a 1TB per month plan, and only need to pay if they go past that. So you don't really cost them anything.

Doesn't the paypal/credit card transaction also cost them something?

Doubt it. If it does normally, this is something you'd sort out.

Thanks a bunch, RF. Controversy or no, it's a generous thing you're doing here.
He is technically only spending a dollar(or whatever unit of currency).

Anyway, correct me if Im wrong, but Paypal charges a flat fee on purchases? http://ppcalc.com/
That thing tells me that if you were to do a purchase payment in dollars, the fee would be 30 cents to the reciever.

EDIT: And if they were to have some sort of micropayments thing going, the fee would be 5 cents.

I could've sworn I heard the HumbleBundle guys themselves say that the 1 cent purchases cost them money.

I may be remember wrong, though. *SHrug.*

I vaguely remember the same thing.  It would seem more ethical to pirate it instead.

Usual Place

I'm willing to buy anyone who wants it the bundle (up to 100 people :p) but I'm warning you that I will not pay more than £0.01 for your's, so you'll have to deal with the guilt or whatever. You have to have created an account before now and not be an Escaped Lunatic yadda yadda.

I say it's worth it for Hammerfight alone, by the way.

Put me in, then, if you can. I find myself agreeing with Naxza here - it's a cent better than a torrent, and at least donating directly is an option too.

I'm surprised by your willingness to do this with internet strangers like us, actually. At least there's no lack of appreciation here for your good deeds.

That is under discussion at the moment.

making the website and video took time = money
Hosting costs money, no matter how your bandwidth is measured.  would be surprised if they pay a minimum of $50/month due to their traffic.
PayPal and all online merhant processors cost money, their is usually a monthly flat fee (PayPal doesnt have one) and then a per transaction fee ( a percentage).

I would like to introduce you to a term coined by one of my favorite sci-fi authors, Mr. Robert A. Heinlein: TANSTAAFL

Listen here folks, There Aint No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. In other words: someone pays, somewhere, somehow...always.

All credit card transactions charge the vendor some amount of money. This is going through a bill in the US congress to limit it to something like 22 cents, but either way it is more than 1 cent. 1 cent purchases cost them money, any way you cut it. Honestly probably saves them money if you don't pay.

I'm sure th HIB people know this, and allow one cent purchases anyway, because they are that awesome.

Otherwise, I'm sure they would have set a minimum price to ensure they cover costs.
