so does wood.
extract some carbon from wood,and make a STEEL knife,combining iron with carbon.
the best steel is with 2% carbon,any more,and it will turn fragile.
EDIT:oh,and DIAMONDS are made of coal.
diamonds are blue when there is a little amount of iron added.
why is that so important?
metals can be covered with a thin layer of diamond,to make them things very sharp,and durable.
also,why dont we wear any armor?
aand,i think we are out of PP.

And coal is made of CARBON. Well, I'm sure it's also made of other things...maybe not.
All we need is carbon, condense it into a super-rigid form, and we've got diamond.

Nope, just got 5 more PP (for a total of 6) by drinking that water.
And sleeping when we could potentially all die is a bad idea. I don't think we'd fall asleep that easily with some huge monster outside making noises either.

Structuraly, dimond is very simple. It shuld actualy be ludricusly easy to make. (ballance it by making it useless instead)

You have no wood available! The hut is made of rock-hard alchemized sand!
You make a small hole in the wall to  breathe through, but you make it in the other wall so whatever's outside doesn't notice you.

There is no aquifer here; you're in a desert! Carver probably uses the condensation trick, and the local Hunters most likely drink the blood of their prey. You do fill up your flask again, though.
