Turn 27

Location: Forest of Piranha Plants (various)
Time: Morning
Weather: Shadows over the Kingdom
Light: Some more

Turn Intro

The scales may be tipped, but the battle is still a standoff. The King is perhaps a bit craftier than the players had imagined, too, so there's no telling what he'll do!

Heroes Minus One (Taric, Red, Bradley, Oomph, Fuzz)
VS
Shadowy Forest King (Corrupted King Piranha, Left Tendril, Right Tendril)

Spoiler: Initiative (click to show/hide)

Turn results

Bradley: Shield Taric from damage and attack with your wand!

You strengthen your Geometry Field as high as it can go, and float in front of Taric to keep him safe. This works out very well for you -- most attacks on Taric will be targeted at you instead, and you get +1 to AV for the turn. This cost you 1 EX.

Additionally, you make a regular attack, with aim that's a little bit off due to focusing on defense. You wave your wand high and low at the mental reading you recognize as Corrupted King Piranha. A burst of geometry shoots forth from the wand, but it goes right around the King in an arc! Thankfully, instead of harming your friends, it just shoots off into the trees and disappears.

Fuzz: Giant hammer. Evil root system. We're making this happen.

Being already in a position to easily whack the King's roots with your oversized not-hammer, you take your best swing. The King's tough roots deflect your attack entirely! They're just too tough! But perhaps, now, you could try something a little more fiery again...

Corrupted King Piranha: Shadowball Rain!

Corrupted King Piranha tilts his mighty head up and spits forth three balls of of pure shadow!
-Bradley takes a minor hit, but his pumped-up geometry field protects him. He only takes 1 damage!
-Fuzz also takes only a minor hit, suffering merely 1 damage.
-Taric is unable to protect himself, and Bradley's protection fails him. He takes 3 damage...

Taric has DIED!
Taric has been transported to the Neverwas
Taric has left the game

Oomph: Whack at its roots.

Filled with fiery rage at the sight of your dead friend and how you couldn't bring him back, you lash out in anger at the King! He killed Taric! It's his fault! The King is clearly not prepared for such a close-range attack on his weak point! He takes 4 damage and is unable to use active abilities next turn!

Red: Midair attack.

You were already mid-flight when you saw Taric die. You suffer a Heroic BSOD, and clatter to the ground. Your world starts spinning. You can't beat the King now. You've lost two of your most powerful party members. You can't do it. You can't do anything.

Battle Combatants

Spoiler: Red (Darvi) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Oomph (Dwarmin) (click to show/hide)

Spoiler: Fuzz (FuzzyZergling) (click to show/hide)

Turn Outro

The Hero is dead, and morale is at an all time low. The others must carry on without him and his power. Meanwhile, the King is strong as ever. How could they possibly succeed now?

Bradley grit his fangs. "Taric! You'll pay for that!" he yelled, launching his most powerful attack a second time.

Not if you died the way you did, no. Your body is gone. (I should have mentioned this in the post; if your body was still there you wouldn't have woken up)
You're getting something better than that, though, soon.

Question: If my status says that my fireball has 1 turn of cooldown left, that means I can use it at the start of next turn, right?

Yes. The fireball has a 3 turn cooldown. On the turn you used it, it will say 3 turns left, even though you jut used it that turn. If I didn't let you use it next turn, that would be 4 turns cooldown.

Before anyone blames me for not healing Taric-I was after the boss in intiative anyway. He would have died still, and my spell would have been wasted. Hindsight 20/20? :P

Oomph paused for a moment to collect himself, then launched a renewed assault with his club!

"Foul plant, I shall bash your roots asunder!"

@Dwarmin: I was going to mess with you about it but I withstood the temptation. Partially because it would have been easy to point out what you did. :P
