Circle 2, Dark Destiny

Daniel Blackwell

You spend the final hours of your life in a trendy coffee shop, staring at your laptops screen. On it is a depiction of all your failures, the e-mail scams have netted you ten bucks, your refitted roomba suicide bots all turned on accidentally and blew up your house, a mad-professor named Marmot is getting some web publicity, and your last actual criminal activity of any kind had involved penguin smuggling.

Your plan right now is to drink double-mocha-chocolate-Frapaccino until you can't stand up, scream curses into the air, and then do whatever the Mad-Scientists guide to world domination tells you to to do next.

Half-way through your fifth round you realize the pointlessness of it all, you are one man in seven billion, one one planet, in one solar system, in one galaxy, in a universe containing millions of galaxies, each with billions of solar systems.

You draw you trusty pistol, inciting no small amount of panic from the other denizens of the coffee shop. You point it at you head before shouting "I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine!" You stare at the pistol, the pistol stares at you, the air is thick with tension.

Wait, just wait a minute. This is death, like DEATH. If you're going to die, it needs to be in a pit of boiling acid or something, Jesus Christ you're only 18... Maybe you should get a job and build up some money and take another run at the evil overlord thing... Frustrated and over caffeinated you slam the pistol back down into the table.

It misfires, the bullet punching down through the table and making a hole in you thigh. You stare at it stunned for a couple of minutes.

You shot yourself in THE FRICKIN' LEG?! You fall out of your chair, clawing at the bleeding hole in your femoral artery. The coffee shop which had been steadily emptying while you had been brandishing the weapon suddenly started a mass and screaming exodus. Vision fades and you start to feel cold, maybe filing the trigger mechanism for quickshots hadn't been such a great plan after all...

Raymond Connor

Today shall be great and distinguished day for liberalism, today you shall demonstrate your contempt of those dirty conservatives by blowing up a building! You pose for a moment in the homeless shelter that you've been using as a hideout, you think you impressed a few of the conscious hoboes.

Now to figure out which building you're going to blow up... Decisions... You pull out a map of the city and make dots with a green marker on a couple random buildings, for a moment you actually try to use the power of logic to find a target, but in the end you play catch-a-tiger to find which building is in need of demolition.

Ah-hah! the CC Coffee Shop! You don't know a thing about it but it as a lot of Cs and no Ls, that's enough for you.  Grabbing your duct-tape and sparkler bombs you bundle them under you clothing, making you look like you're hiding an overweight Cthulu under you shirt.

You Travel to the CC-CS, breaking through the window of an adjacent building and leaping onto the roof where you quickly can access to the interior of the coffee shop through overly fancy acrobatics.

You land in the middle of what looks like an active investigation, everyone stares at your rather enthusiastic entrance. One of the bombs falls out of your shirt. Your liberalism, working independently of your brain seizes control of your mouth and yells "Death to Conservatives!"

This might not have been most tactful approach.

You're about to try and find that lighter you've got on you somewhere so you can light one of the bombs when something heavy connects the back of your skull.

Jhon Harley

Today was shaping up to be one of those days it just didn't pay to get out of bed. First there was this mess with a suicide/accident/what-the-hell, then there was captain conundrum dropping through the ceiling, then you sprained your wrist rendering captain conundrum unconscious with your nightstick, and now the 'Lead investigator' was being a dick over procedure, more specifically he was being a dick over your desire for procedure.

"He's a potato, any evidence gained from him is useless unless we read him his rights and he confesses without pressure, if he pleads undue force do you really think the courts are going to press the case of a Sparkler bomb wielding terrorist?" This has to be the eighth variation of the same statement you've made, all of which only illicit a grunt from the lead. The lead and a few of his cronies haul the unconscious terrorist into a sitting position against a chair, as you prepare to state the truth in yet ANOTHER way for the rather dense lead he puts a hand up to stop you. "Look, you want to ensure it's a nice and friendly interrogation then you can stay, if you want to pick up a nice little check for your services then you can go back home and wait for the phone call. Alright champ?"

You plant your feet and set you jaw, the law was what separated humans from animals. Didn't matter if it was a stoned terrorist-wannabe with sparklers wrapped in duct-tape, an innocent child, or the worst villain in history. The law was the law.

The lead shrugs at you decision and starts to give directions. "Alright, we arrived at the scene of a murder where a terrorist with several bombs held hostages, the terrorist was shot and killed but not before he light his payload, the Detective here" he tips his head in your direction "was killed in the blast. Everyone saw it.

You have enough time to realize what the hell is happening before a revolver fires at point blank range from directly behind you. You stagger forward and the lead whips his own nightstick into your face, stunning you and causing you to fall sideways on the floor. Another trio of gunshots ring out, putting holes in the head and chest of the terrorist while you're helpless to interfere, your own life spilling out around you.

The leads distorted voice sighs and then continues issuing orders. "Fred, light this asshole up, make it burn hot. Don't let it lead back, everyone else start writing reports and making them match."

---

All

Death is slow fall of surprise for Jhon and Frank, a gentle transition between the pained sleep of forced unconsciousness for Raymond, and a frustrated ebb for the young Blackwell.

Gentle light surrounds you and covers you, a shroud as fine as mist and lighter than air. You feel at peace within its confines, disquiet rippling only briefly along the surface of you mind, like water striders across a quite pool. Above all there is a powerful desire to move into the light, unfathomable as it is you feel that this is the culmination of everything you could have wished for...

Frank opened his eyes. The last seven days were a blur; there were no distinct memories among them. Just the usual haze of duties for the cult. He was pretty sure he had sacrificed a woman at some point during the week to Tel'ars, but he couldn't be certain when, or what had happened before and after. He thought about matters. The last thing he remembered for certain was reading from the book at noon. Beyond that, no clear line from one thing to the next. He knew he was dead. That much was obvious from all of his studying on the subject, along with others related to the supernatural. The 'how' and 'why' were what was confusing him.

Forget it; it wasn't important. He wasn't moving on yet. He still had things to do. He had to complete the cult's destiny; to bring the only true lord into the world. He moved toward the light, certain it would bring him back to the land of the living; it sure wouldn't take him to heaven, not that he cared.

Circle 1

Tarran Smith

"Where... am... I? Is this a dream? Please tell me the building hitting me was a dream."

Try to wake up.

You try to wake, struggling like a fitful infant against the ethereal swaddling cloth. [Perception+Awareness=Meager Success] You've never had a dream like this before... but you can't be dead, not now... This can't be death, if there truly is something beyond death then you surely deserve heaven, the people you've saved, the lives you've mended sure redeem whatever faults you had.

Hikari Shizume

" I was expecting flames, torture machines, demons trying to kill me, and no airconditioning not this." said Hikari as he tried to fiqure out where he was, and wake up from this odd dream.

Your fate is one that you resigned yourself to a long time ago, this was not the inferno, therefore you must not be dead. How you survived you are not certain, but you struggle to wake regardless. [Perception+Alertness= Botch!] Your struggle is not fruitless and you find yourself seeing fits and blurs of your life, slowly the visions seep together and become a seamless reality for you to explore and live again in.

(Hikari is having a Wraith dream due to disbelief, will last for two turns if uninterrupted)

Kaguro

Kaguro looked about himself. "What is this? Definately not heaven, not like I belong there anyway, doesn't look like hell either.....limbo?"

You try to peer through the shroud that covers you, vision is difficult through the veil that covers you, the glow seems to obscure all hard lines, smearing darkness and light into a single blur. [Perception+Alertness=Fair Success] There are things out there, and if you stretch your hearing you can hear voices, [Perception+Empathy=Meager Success] they don't sound happy... More than that is difficult.

Adrian

Adrian... well, he was annoyed. His law-firm was just starting to bring in the big bacon... and now this. Whatever this is. He tried to open his eyes; It's never good to sleep while on the job. Because he was obviously still half asleep... This is not good. Wait, that light... maybe he really did die? Maybe this is the path to heaven... Try to get to the light was all Adrian could think. Even if he was supposed to go to hell, he was sure he could lie, manipulate and mediate his way into heaven... He wasn't a Lawyer for nothing, right?

Bolstering your confidence and trying to shake your head to clear the cobwebs you step forwards, trying to forge your way towards the light. [Will+0=Great success] Struggling to move you legs you take a step, it's like moving through jello but you manage, placing one foot in front of the other. [Reaper Dex+Brawl=Meager success] Something hits you from the side, a shadow across you covering of light. You stumble slightly and stop but are unharmed by the blow.

Reapers

The reapers flock around the new enfants, prepare to tear their cauls off and chain them in a single quick motion, intending to add them to the other two souls captured today. The leader of the reaper group pinches Tarran's caul in two places between thumb and forefinger, ripping it slightly with a swift jerking motion.

Tarran Smith

A shadow falls over your face, pressing in against the material that covers you. The suddenly a tear appears, as long as your hand is wide, it seems to let what little peace and warmth there was within out and letting in an undefinable coldness from without in. There's a face an the other side, human it would seem, and smiling. Just as the other man's hands tense to rip the shroud covering you away there is a strange sound, like breaking earth and and shrieking metal. The man pushes you to the ground where you fall slowly, still cushioned by the remains of your shroud.

What happens next is difficult to describe, through the hole in you shroud you can see and hear, but what you see and hear is unearthly. You can see a manhole in the street that you're lying on, and something starts to climb out. Thin and spindly, with too many legs it emerges form the small hole, flowing out as much a climbing out, its cries generate the sound you heard, and it moves towards the shadows outside the shroud with surprising speed.

The people who had surrounded you scattered, but not in time. You bear mute witness to the spindly thing impaling a human on a foreleg and lowering it into the thing's mouth. There's a brief explosion of gunfire from above you, and the human the beast was holding blows apart into wisps of nothing. Howling in frustration the monster charges forwards, lashing out with two more spiky arms to catch more of the humans, the worst comes when it lunges over you, shark-tooth filled maw fronted by all too human eyes closing over the human who ripped your shroud open.

Bits of him dribble on your shroud as it chews.

From the corner of your eye you see another human try to run, making for the darkest shadow he could find, making it only ten feet before the thing lashed out again. Your vision mercifully limits the sight of what happens next, though the sound still carries. Nothing else moves now but the creature. It sweeps its head back and forth, sniffing at the air. After a moment though the pained moans of the humans it still carries impaled on it draw it's notice again. Making a sound almost reminiscent of laughter it flows back down the manhole, leaving you alone again.

Quest Added, All

Notes

Tarran has a hole in his caul large enough for him to tear out of

Hikari is dreaming
Tarran is the only one who was truly aware of the attack of the monster, all the others perceived was light and shadow.

He rolls a number of dice against a set difficulty, with 1s taking away from the amount of successes you get. For ease of reading he's not writing it as like 8, 6, 4, 5, 1, 1 + 7, 4, 3, 1, 1; rather he's just listing what attributes/skills are being used and the amount of successes you got.
