For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Over here there's no distinction between Boy and Girl Scouts, we just have the Scouts.
It's the same all the way through from cubs to venture scouts.

Hmm... I thought you lived in the UK, MoM?  I certainly know of several Girl Guide groups, although there are girls in my current Scout group so...

.... "let's force them wear the least practical thing possible while moving around beating the crap out of each other on an ELEVATED ring...."

Does a skirt like the one in that picture really pose that sort of problem?

Yeah, it's sexist as hell.  It just doesn't strike me as a practical problem by restricting movement or encouraging accidents, unless they're going to be made to wear long skirts or tight mini-skirts.

Even if there aren't ... physical momentum or modesty concerns, there are psychological ones.... Like I said, elevated ring.... Its one more damn thing to worry about instead of your body positioning relative to your opponent's. Even if you don't buy that, it's different from what they trained in. Even without that, like you said, it's sexist and that weighs on you....

Moreover, it is entirely needless and serves no purpose whatsoever. It is expressly done to "distinguish the women from the men." What the ...? A.) Like you can't.... B.) Like that's necessary.... C.) Like that could possibly have a legit purpose.

Evidence that a significant portion of women's boxing fans are in it for the fanservice.

Badminton did the same thing too.  You'd think the boxing body could've learnt from the reaction to that...

As someone who really likes female clothing, the key word is "likes" which implies choice.... I like wearing skirts and dresses, when the situation fits....

Even if the scouts didn't let you in, if you were raised in a different environment, you could have easily done and learned those things in other ways.

I generally did.  However, it's very different learning minor auto mechanic skills and so on from your parents, as a girl, than it is doing it as "one of the boys."

There's no guarantee you would have actually liked the Boy Scouts anyway. It's worth mentioning they aren't the most progressive organization on the planet, and personally, I only lasted a couple weeks (after being in webelos, though) before quitting, both because I don't work well in structured groups and because the petty authority exhibited by the junior scoutmasters (or whoever they were) put me off a bit.
