Omgpop?
« on: May 14, 2011, 11:56:46 am »

Some of you may already know this site, but I just found it. The community there is not worth thinking about and the average player age appears to be somewhere around 7, but the multiplayer games are actually surprisingly excellent. The good news? Because most of the players are so young, I'm getting gold medal after gold medal in all the games I play. But it's starting to get boring and I could use some competition, so I come here to beseech my Bay12 brethren to join me and play some pretty fun games against some pretty obnoxious kids who are about due to be knocked down a few pegs.

The games I play are:

Draw My Thing: Basically pictionary. Massively fun if you get creative people - you don't have to be good at drawing, you just have to be able to get your point across somehow.
Sky Pigs: Remember that old flash game Helicopter? You hold down the mouse button to go up and let go to go down? This is basically that, but with pigs strapped into rockets, and with other players trying to make it further than you. And if you die, you can send in distractions to mess up the other players or get lucky and win an extra life - coming back as a ham.
Hit Machine: A guitar hero clone. I'm not a fan of the keyboard layout but it's fun anyway.
Jigsawce: You solve a jigsaw puzzle, getting points for each piece you place properly. But the other players are playing on the same puzzle with you and trying to solve more pieces than you.
Typow: A typing racing game. My average typing speed in the game is around 120 wpm, and the average speed of the others is around 40. The result is that I keep getting kicked out of the games because they all hate me beating them over and over again.

If anyone's interested, pop on over and add me. My username there is Kotshka.

So your playing children's games against a bunch of 7 year olds and beating them soundly because they're just kids? And you want a bunch of other adults to come in and help you beat the kids even more?

I dunno, that sounds kinda mean.

My friend had me sign up for omgpop in order to play Draw My Thing when iSketch was down one day. Played it once, then never touched it again.

It took a lot of work to get omgpop to stop spamming the shit out of my email with "PLEASE COME BACK", coin offer and item offer emails. I tried unsubscribing via the email link and changing my account settings with no avail. Ended up having to send a long series of emails to omgpop's support in order to get the issue resolved, as they did not bother to take care of it until I brought up the CAN-SPAM Act.

If you're going to make an omgpop account, I recommend doing it on a throwaway email account.

I have no interest in the topic at hand, but can you tell me about this CAN-SPAM Act? It might help me get a few people from loading my inbox(GameStop in particular).

Two of the regulations in the CAN-SPAM Act of 2003 are a working opt-out and opt-out requests being honored within 10 days. Now, this technically doesn't apply to me and omgpop since we have a "business relationship" and their emails weren't TECHNICALLY unsolicited; but in my experience, citing the CAN-SPAM act is enough to get lazy companies that are otherwise legitimate to respect your request to be taken off their mailing list.

It's a bluff, but I've never been called on it to date.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the way the site works, but I'm not a fan of Facebook either and it's still the most convenient way to keep in touch with my family in the US without having to actually talk to them. Really I'm not interested in beating more little kids so much as having some actual competition for myself. I really enjoy the games but there's no challenge as it is now. You can make private matches in the games to just play with your friends.
