Pretty much it now is. Build a town, defend it from raiders, defend it from slavers, defend it from cannibals, rescue captured people from said slavers and cannibals. There are roaming creatures now, hopefully we get that big biome update so its not a giant desert anymore.

It's still a bit sparse. There's a lot left to do.

are you still gotta get instakilled unless you grind stunned raiders for days near city gates?

No, but your stuff will get looted. The 'good' thing is that every defeat makes you stronger.

aka toughness was altered to boost its leveling a lot faster the more you are whooped and injured as opposed to before where simply being injured increased it

If you are skeptical.  I'd at least wait for the big map update before jumping back in.
Supposedly coming out in a few months.  Then wait for bug fixing of that map.

... Yea.

I tested this out after putting it down for 1 year or more, once I noticed Steam was updating it.

It seems more bugged now, NPC pathing still ridiculous, weird bugs, too slow (having to wait 3-10 real life minutes for your character to heal in the maximum gamespeed is extremely annoying when your squad is just 1-3 people).

Honestly, I heard about this game many, many years ago. This thread was made in 2011, and I had found it a long time before that.
It seemed promising and awesome. It proved that this concept can result in a great, fun game.
However, every year I come back to check this, it barely moved and added more flaws than anything. This is reaching Hazeron levels of development.
Don't get me wrong, it is fun starting from a naked guy into a samurai-ninja-base-owning-giant-weapon-wielding-badass.
But it takes every single drop of patience you have in your soul, and it's not worth it.

But I guess everyone who wanted to buy this already bought it, and those who decided not to won't change their minds easily.

It honestly feels like a lot of their problems came from the fact that their entire team was composed of cats, and the people who were supposed to be herding them were also cats.

It is in a bit of development hell unfortunately, though all indication seem to prove they are close to finally implementing all the terrain and map updates that they knew would be bogging them down for a while. Worst case scenario they suffer through years more of development hell and best case they finally wrap up what is basically a redoing of the game world, graphics, textures, etc. and finally get on with the polish and details.

To say it has "barely moved" development wise is crazy innacurate...sure it's not the fastest updating game out there but the updates are rarely what I would call "lacking"

I think it would be more accurate to say that the "Fun Development" has "Barely moved"
