That being said, discuss the topic and share games you consider "art".

None.

Or rather, it will only become art when the NEA sends out a grant and it officially becomes art. Of course, a thing could be art without NEA funding, but it'll be slightly subjective, and subjectivity is bad.

If you ask for my lame opinion...well...since I do believe the purpose of art is to entertain, and that delivering messages is not really "art", how about all mindless AAA games?

VVV It's a stupid joke, I realized that, I went to the edit button to try and delete it, realized I couldn't delete it, then decided to edit the post with actually something useful and on-topic. Thanks for preserving said joke.

Art is subjective.

Who could forget ICO? beautiful shit.

Also, Dwarf Fortress, if you're idea of art is a more ruby golberg-centric.

Okami, MadWorld, and Borderlands are my top picks from mainstream games.
Don't play enough indie games to make any decisions. :b

Just say Kyntt, it will get you out of anything and make you look like a genuine hipster.

Although Prosopamnesia would make a prime candidate.

Dwarf Fortress is legitimately one of the best examples of games as art that I've ever seen. The thing that sets games apart as an interactive medium is their ability to allow the player to live out a story, rather than simply telling him one. DF produces more fantastic, unique stories than anything. It's artistic without being high-minded.

Far Cry 2 is also on my list. I was playing it once and got in a bit of a firefight on a bridge; it was quickly resolved by my lovely lovely rifle, but I had left my car way back on the road and didn't want to go get it. I saw a head pop up by a sedan on the other side of the bridge and snap-shotted the guy without hesitating. And then, as I was jogging up to my new car, I realized I had no idea if he had been a soldier or a civilian. And then, as I was checking his body to find out, I realized I didn't really care. Not in the typical "meh, just a game" sense, I was totally immersed and I still didn't care. That desensitization has stuck with me for a while.

I can tell it's a piece of art just from the FAQ. It's worth a read.

More importantly than grant money, with video games considered Art they are protected by the first amendment. So jackals like Jack Thompson will have to find a new rock-and-roll to pick on.

I wish our Australian government would be more open minded to games as an artistic medium. Hell, we don't even have a rating for adult games, so any games for adults are outright banned. L4D2 almost didn't make it, and when it did it had limbs hacked off!

That's something I never quite got. So adult games are banned because there's no rating for adult games? it boggles the mind.
