Why not just go over some Metroid Wiki and scrounge information from there?
That's what I did when I tried to start on a Metroid mod, but I only got as far as making the Queen Metroid.

Anyway, the Wiki I checked mentions that the fore-arm melee weapon pirates use is a "photonic power scythe" so why not use that?

update, last update for a while (next one tackles the final races and a more graphics for new creatures).

added unique armor and weapons for the space pirates and luminoth, changed the graphics set slightly (males are missiles females are super missiles, samus symbol is for armor), added in the omega pirate.  material values for the new metals have been adjusted to be balanced with the other metals.  Phazite should actually be able to damage samus now (not sure about dark samus).

Do you have a run-down of the newly included items and materials? I figure using the new armor and weapons is the piratey thing to do but how do the new metals like Cordite, Radion and Phazon stand up to the older ones like Steel and Cotton Candy?

 copper  < iron < cordite < denzium < bronze < bismuth-bronze < radion <  steel <  maldium < bendezium < phazon < red phazon <<<< adamantium < phazite

power scythe -> longer, deadler short sword
large power scythe -> modified longsword
hammerfist -> hammer
jagged spear -> spear

claw blaster > sharpened blaster in terms of firepower (both fire rounds), but the sharpened blaster is better for melee and uses the sword skill.  claw blaster uses grasp strike or wrestling up close.

heavy cannon and missile launchers are about the same strength when the heavy cannon shoots heavy rounds and the missile launcher shoots super missiles, but the missile launcher can also shoot weaker missiles that cost less to make.  both do significant blunt damage, while normal rounds do piercing damage.  the heavy cannon and the missile launcher, while better at ranged combat than the blasters, are terrible in close combat.

in terms of increasing protection
light carapiece < tempered carapiece < power armor
pincer wraps < pincer guards < claw gauntlets
pirate trooper cap < pirate full helm < commando helm
leggings < banded leggings < greaves
portable battle shield < shield < hazard shield
arched boots <  two toed war boots < arched sabatons

sorry about any confusion, edited for correct order.

Inspired by this? Is that where the name "Make Science!" comes from? ???

I've only played Metroid 1 and 3, so I don't know if that's a reference to a quote in one of the later games or what. ???

He he he.  Yeah, it almost looks done...  alas...  those who are in your teens, hold on until your twenties...  those in your twenties, your thirties...  others, cling to life as you are able...

But when will the game be done!?
Eight years.
So Dwarf Fortress will be done on Friday, September 14, 2012.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe I can get such a powerful metal so easily.

Now to find a use for these dangerous and bloodthirsty metroids I've captured...

Someone's been feeding the zoomers out behind the residential area.

A wild zoomer adopted a space pirate. Still a wild animal seemingly but we'll see what happens I guess.

EDIT: And the named zoomer has left the map without incident. Huh.

...unusual.  i mean they're supposed to act like cats, so i suppose they still adopt people even if they're wild...

Well there didn't seem to be any negative effects so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

update's out, humans are now the "galactic federation" and act more like goblins.  ing are now their own race, and act like stupidy strong kobolds.  also added a few robots you can bring with you on the embark screen, and omega pirates are much cheaper.  theres another megabeast too.

also added some sprites for a few creatures and tweaked the metals a bit to be more balanced.

at this point no, i may make kihunters their own race sometime in the future though and they'll be friendly.

small update made to make more space pirate fortress survive in the worldgen so you have more people to trade with.

slight update, fixed a glitch where humans would still be friendly with you

also, my previous post was a bit off: luminoth are neutral until you cut too many trees down/offer them wood or animal goods.
